Hey guys, a while back I saw a thread where someone asked about using 3D printers to make action figures, but how about 3D printers to make to make enviroments? There is currently a indiegogo campaign to make set pieces for Star Wars figures; they are planning to make (if funding permits) a Death Star wall/floor piece and a Tantive IV wall/floor piece. The bases will have the ability to interlock. If this is successful do you think someone will try something similar with Joes?
I have included the link to check out the campaign. Custom Star Wars Display Project | Indiegogo What do you think, could this be profitable? Could it be done with other action figure lines? |

How about 3D printing to make the SDCC jetfire booster packs for customizing purposes. How much would that cost?

I think a 3d printer could be used to make anything you need. You could replicate every GI Joe toy ever.

Figure wise, it wouldn't be hard at all, but it would be expensive. Most vintage figures are pretty easy to get at relatively cheap prices and they are already painted. You could certainly make hard to find pieces, but remember that you will still have to paint them. It wouldn't be the same as a factory piece. To me, the real dream of the 3D printer is to make pieces that Hasbro won't or can't make.

That is crazy cool. These guys are almost at their target funds goal, look like nice products too. There is so much I would like to see done.

The thing I thought was interesting was that they sort of imply that they could make a Cantina environment. If they could make that, they probably could make a "bunker" environment. I don't have any expierience with 3D printers so I don't have any idea on how much such a thing would cost. Would it be too expensive for the average collector to be interested in?
