C'mon, let's face it:
be an experienced customizer or the laziest kitbasher, pretty much all of them is already drooling in anticipation with Retaliation Ultimates wave 3.5. So let's share, discuss and analize the figures and what are the plans for them. I think all the figures have custom potential, all of them. (i'm not posting the huge images again, just the small thumbs for reference) We have some straight army-builders here. -The CG is the only one i'm not keeping. He's horrible. The proportions are completely off, and those gnarled 25th legs should be retired. -The Cobra Trooper is an army builder in itself, but also has great potential: he can be easily a Swat-type troop, another type of Alley-Viper or even mixed with Shock Troopers (he's basically a repaint). There's not much to discuss about these two, really. Then, we get Duke, Flint and Roadblock: -Duke is basically an army builder. With or without the extra head, he's already generic but cool enough to fill almost any role. I plan to turn him into Red Spot, the laser sniper. Simple. Mixed with Mouse's lower arms and some paint, he could be truly an Ultimate Duke, though. -Flint can be a generic guy too, or have some new paint and keep it as Flint. He's really useful because there aren't many figures with rolled up black sleeves. He has also a good unmasked head to use (instead of the miriad of Tatum heads we all sure have in a box lol!) -Roadblock might not be as generic, but he's really useful anyways. I plan to sculpt some blonde hair, and turn him into Ultimate Rock n Roll. There aren't figures with big arms and short sleeves, so he's kinda unique on that. Besides that, he can be easily a generic heavy gunner, or turn easily into Gung-Ho.

Following up.
Budo, Kwinn and Data-Viper, arguably the peg warmers: -Budo has evidently some paint issue with the eyebrows, but nothing that can't be fixed (the benefits of having a head casted in flesh tone). Granted, he doesn't gives many options as fodder, but the sheer coolnes of being one of the few samurai in this scale will make him fly off the shelves (imho). Besides, you can't have a dojo battle dio without some Samurais on it! You can have some paint details, and bit of part swapping (legs for example, or cutting off the antlers) and you get several types of samurais. Combine with Tornado Kick SS, or PoC desert SS, and you get a lot of combinations. -Kwinn with no potential fodder? Think again. Aside of being awesome in itself, from the waist up, he'll be a Ultimate Recondo "fix". Those arms can be useful too for Footloose, Outback, etc. His head looks somewhat to Larry Hama. Or can be Quick Kick sans headband, or even an older Tunnel rat. If you're not too picky, even as Rocky or Spirit. The legs are useful, since it's the only set of legs in that style. Rocky, Sagat... i personally want to make an Team Adventure jungle expert (comes with a White Lion) that was released in 12". -Data-Viper is basically everyone's Jet Pilot. Or paratrooper. Or Hazmat guy. Whatever! Just switch the head, there's plenty for it. Space shot, Countdown, Maverick... a lot of names come to mind that can be done. And he's one of the few non-ninja figures casted in white, a color that can give troubles. (Steelgrave could finally armybuild a legion of astronauts!)

So, last but not least.
Firefly, CC, SS and SE. -Firefly is cool. Sure, the 3pk FF is probably the default, but this one isn't bad. He can be a regular goon a-la MGS, or come as a great fodder parts source. My plan is to depaint the camo (luckily, he's casted in green from waist up) and turn him into a modern Psyche-Out. C'mon, he's green and grey, two tones that can be Cobra or Joe, is not that difficult. -Cobra Commander! Another one yes. But definitely the Ultimate. And he's got fodder potential! The figure is so well sculpted and proportioned that can be reused. A head swap and belt change (that glued, not sculpted) and you get a Cobra Officer. The legs finally don't have thight pants, so can be used too, maybe Cutter or Sureshot. The arms can be used for classic-looking Steel Brigades. So, there is, finally a CC that can be useful for something. -Storm Shadow... what can be said? He's the Ultimate SS. Personally, i'm not dying for it, i prefer the Renegades one, but this one has those useful arms and legs. SS is always useful for ninja customs, and this version is no different. -Snake Eyes... well... two words: generic diver. This is basically what we'll get in the Night landing, so why not have some extras? By now we all have some masked heads to slap on him, so if you ordered a case, turn him into a diver and be done with it. Torpedo, Wet-suit, Wet-down... there are many divers to make with little effort.

I know for sure that I am using the alternate head on the Cobra Trooper for a Gray Fox custom from Metal Gear Solid.

Gonna use the 1st Shock Trooper Ninja Combat Fella-Dude as a test bed for accurately colored od jungle fatigues. The next will probably get a tan paint paint job, and I've got sharpshooter plans for a third.
Budo's armor is gonna get a paint job and be used in a display piece I'm working on. And I thought realistic repaints of the Zombie Viper were tedious. Purchase of Rockblock completely hinges on the .50's barrel being as it was on the prototype. Kwinn is being converted into a Rhodesian Selous Scout. Dunno if I'll buy any of the others. Maybe a Storm Shadow to do a camouflage ninja. |

I preordered an extra Kwinn so that I could use the upper half for a Falcon custom. Once I have him in hand I'll figure out what legs will work best.

good post. Most are gonna be used to army build. Missed the shock troopers in POC will NOT miss out on the combat ninja's Will paint their straps and kneepads to match the proto's and that's all. RB will be my new default RB with version one RB being Gung Ho's. Duke/flint will be great fodder to add new Joes to the team. Will save me from trying to buy up POC stuff now. customizing joes where have you been all my life lol.

But I plan on getting another to use his head to make Wong, of Oktober Guard, Sunbow cartoon, fame. I think the head will work...?

I bought a Renegades Zartan just for that. The body seems almost perfect for it. ;) Quote:

He also has a Red ninja torso and legs underneath, so the armor itself can be mixed with other ninjas. Didn't tought of it! Bah! I just threw out some simple ideas, i'm sure that people will come up with better ones. Thanks anyways! Quote:
That combo torso-arms is VERY useful.
