So, this is my first entry for this custom aircraft carrier I'm currently planning. The whole thing started when I decided to dig out my old USS Flagg to inventory the parts and see what I was missing. I also busted out the 'ol skystriker (looking shitty of course after 7 years in a non-climate controlled building) and placed it on the deck. Along with my target exclusive X-30 and my dragonfly, the deck was getting a little crowded. Not to mention you can't really use the elevator for anything other than a skyhawk.
Well, to make a short story long, I started to fantisize about customizing my Flagg with a repainted deck (to remove those old crummy stickers that collect dirt and look like the underside of an unkept toenail) and new accessories. But I still realized that it would be a bit small for more than three vehicles. Then I decided to try my hand at my own custom. But a bigger ship meant more planes. So I started searching for another skystriker and an F-18 from PTE, and I bought an F-22 and Blackhawk from Toys R US. In the meantime, I drew up plans and made my measurements. First off, I wanted to design something that was a little more accurate than my original USS Flagg, but not too accurate. I mean, this is basically a big toy. I also didn't want to be bogged down in little minutiae either (I'm lazy on accuracy, so sue me) so I chose a design that was classic aircraft carrier, but not truly in scale (because a 1/18 scale carrier would be over 60 feet long!). Now the basement room is clear of boxed and ready to go. I went with 16 feet long by 6 feet wide mostly due to space constraints (I have a semi-finished basement with walls), but I will have not only a flight deck, but also a hangar deck, a small island with four levels, 3 elevators, and appropriate lighting for each section. Should be fun, but I do have one stumbling block. I really don't know if I should name it the USS Flagg, and while it will have GI Joe-sized guys on it and some recognizable characters, most of the pilots and ground crew will be customized Breaker figures, to look more like the real ground and flight crew (I always thought that a bare-footed Quick-kick refueling a skystriker looked a little goofy). What are your thoughts on either naming it the USS Flagg or something else, like maybe the USS Clayton M. Abernathy, or something. So welcome to my little on-line diary of the construction of this insanity. Hope you enjoy it! (Pictures coming soon!)

Yeah, I ordered an F/A-18 from across the pond. But get this: I also bought an Su-27 Flanker. That's right. PTE makes an Su-27 Flanker. I'm guessing that this is a european special, considering that 99% of the American public doesn't even know what a flanker is outside of football terminology. Super cool, though. I'm gonna convert it to an Su-33 carrier-based flanker.

The flanker is one of the new power team elite vehicles. They were just released this year. The theme is Chinese vehicles to highlight the military of the manufacturer's nation. Power Team Elite vehicles don't hit state side until the holiday season. You can order them now from MKL mail order company for the impatient folk.
On the topic of the name, come up with a name synonymous with GI Joe. Independence, Freedom, Liberty, just to name a few. Get a Thesaurus and reference names from the American mindset and work along those lines.

I thought about that, but not only does that seem a little overdone, the USS Flagg follows the naming standard used in the USN, from the USS Chester W. Nimitz to the USS Gerald R. Ford. They're all named after people. Other than just naming it the USS Lawrence J. Flagg, I'm not sure what direction to go. I would prefer doing something a little more outside the box. I might save the USS Constitution or Liberty for my planned escort frigate...
