I use milliput for all of my customs because that is what my local hobby shop carries. I should probably order some Aves Apoxie...but I found this other air hardening clay called Das at Micheals and was wondering if any of you have tried it out before. It was $7 for 2.2 lbs, the price/quantity ratio was pretty decent. It is a white clay made in Italy and imported by Prang. I picked up a pack to see how well it works.

Das is more of a scenery clay for model railroading.
If I remember correctly, it is very brittle when set. It didn't even work well on miniature bases. Get the Aves products. They are worth the little extra cost. Apoxie Sculpt is good and Fixit Sculpt is supposedly better (but I have not used it yet.) ~Eric |

Oh yeah, Das.
I thought that wasn't produced anynore. When dry is quite hard and resistant. Iirc, it has a great surface for painting, a bit more rough than green stuff or apoxies, but that makes the paint get a better hold on it. It is mostly used in miniature dios, to construct trees, rocks and the like. I have a few books on how to do dios with a lot of stuff, and Das. They're in spanish, but they have a lot of pictures of the process...if you're interested, i could scan/mail them, so you could get ideas and see how it's worked on. Plus, most of the dios are military vehicles and figures ;) I bought a few days ago an apoxi that dries in 10'. Is that grey stuff, used to seal and fix pipes...you have to work fast! but is great for sculpting little details like pockets and the like, since it dries in minutes, and you can go for the big sculpting like faces and torsos. I've painted on top of it with enamels, and couldn't scratch the paint! :O Never thought it would work so good. EDIT: Ninjad by eMills! well, there you go, he has the opposite experience...i guess you'll have to try them. |
