Nostalgia time.
When the 3 3/4 joes came out in 82 there was a statement printed on the box. "Sturdy construction for rugged play". We have talked about that on here before. Pushing the boundary of this statement often ended up in figures in need of assistance. These were actually my first customs. I once rubber banded Stalker to a ceiling fan and turned it on high. When he came loose he sailed across the room and crashed into the fireplace bricks, losing the entire lower part of his right arm. This was unacceptable. I had a spare cannon from an old MOBAT and it fit nicely on the stump, so Stalker now had a cannon arm with which to fight Cobra. So, what kind of kiddie customs were you forced to perform?

I can Relate, although they were Corps! figures (UK Bro).
My dad used to be a lecturer of Fine Arts in Bristol University, and so I had to my disposal of a 10 Yr old boy the entire arts department at a universaty. Used to solder shit onto stuff, but bits of old Radios on figures, I think one actually got turned into some sort of half human half spider Joe. I'll have to have a look in the old box of toys to see if I have any left. I also built an awesome base in his garden out of ply wood using some designs a student drew me up, good times it had a drawbridge with working mechanisms n shit. Yes, I can relate |

I had some figs that suffered a few casualties over the years, but I was so anal about my joe collection that I kept everything in order and was super careful. I remember my neighbor, who was a year older than me, took Law and Order's arms and put them on Wild Weasel, and I was like, "Whaaaaaat???" It appalled me that he would desecrate a Gi joe figure. I never even really mixed and matched weapons except for some very rare occasions. It wasn't until the 25th was released and I ran across this website that I started customizing.

I used to slice up and attach weapons to vehicles when I was a kid with a steak knife heated on the stove. Burning melted plastic, smells like toxin!!!

When I had duplicates I would parts swap and use a marker to change hair color or add beards. Then I would cut up a ceral box and make my own filecards.
