Hey Brothers,
Writing today because I'm on a hunt for medic supplies and items. I didn't see any other threads in the search that matched this sort of thing, so figured I submit a thread for it. I found a great deal a few weeks back for one of the EternalCon Doc figures. Reason being I got it for so low, I guess, is because it was missing the stand, and the stethoscope. Still had the cardbacking/fc, packaging, and the stretcher. But no stethoscope or stand :( Now, I've not found any of the custom casters (who currently have their stores open) selling any kinds of stethoscope, or other medic gear. Actually, there is the Injector gun-thing that came with Lifeline/Doctor Rex, and the handheld injector thing that came with Cesspool. Those are available. But for Doc, that doesn't quite fit the bill. I ran across that Male Nurse action figure online and he comes with a stethoscope (and x-ray picture), but he's 5.5 inches, and the stethoscope itself would be needing some adjustment and modification to fit Doc exactly. That'd be no problem. But the problem with that is the Nurse action figure isn't exactly cost-effective, ranging from 25 to 50 bucks, at best. That's not really an amount I would want to pay, if I were even able to swing that much in the first place. Does anyone out there have any leads on medical gear for our joes? Does anyone happen to have any spare medic gear in their fodder bins? Anyone out there able to help with intel, or products themselves? I'm going to see if I can fabricate some kind of stethoscope, myself, by using one of the arah black hoses I have, and possibly some green stuff. But, I'd really like to find more than that, since I'm not the best with fabrication, and Eternalcon Doc really deserves something unique and nifty like that. Thanks a ton for your time taken to read this, doubly so if you're able to help with some info, or otherwise. Yo Joe, and have a good weekend guys. -Mike |

I made most of mine for my lifeline. Honestly not sure there are any joe scale Doctor accessories.
You could try a craft store that sells doll house accessories. Also play mobile hospital accessories may be an adaptable size... |

A reply from the man himself!
If at all possible, would you be cool with showing me what you've made for 'em, and maybe me incorporating some of those tactics for my joes? Thanks! |

There's some images here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-lifeline.html
Some of the items: Tongue depressor - get a flat toothpick, use an exacto knife to make it half its thickness then trip to appropriate lengths. Scalpel - either remove the guard from a joe knife and trim/taper the blade to appropriate size, or cut a handle off a gun, make a slot in the top and wedge a curved piece of tin (carefully trimmed from a pop can lid) into it. Taper blade appropriately. Sterhoscope - if you have an old coax cable from your TV laying around disassemble one end. You'll find some VERY useful flexible copper wire running the length and a small silver metal tab beneath the central pin. As you can see in my link above the metal pin fits perfectly into Joe hose with a dab of glue and the tab beneath is a perfect bell. Then use the copper wire to make the ear pieces. Gold in half, insert folded end into tube, then bend wire appropriately into shape seen in image linked. (If you make the wire long enough the entire stethoscope can be posed!) Ophthalmoscope/otoscope - carefully cut this from the leg of any Joe that shares the right calf of lifeline. It's a good replica. To reattach to the pouch remove the pins from two thumb tacks and embed them into the pouch remaining with the pointy ends out. Then use a third push pin to make matching holes in the otoscope and it can attach to the leg (see pictures). Medication containers can be made by cutting down long circular barels from rifles or the pole from battle kata roadblock and then painting (white lid, various colour body) The red oxygen tank that came with Blowtorch in the 50th anniversary is the perfect size for an O2 tank though should be painted green on the body and white on the upper curved part for accuracy. (Lifeline also comes with an air tank with a face mask) Triangular bandages, gausE, etc can be made by cutting down a paper towel or toilet paper. Lifeline comes with a defibrillator, IV line, saline pouch, etc. You can see Oral-Pharyngeal Airways in his case but there's no point making one as Joe heads are solid. You should also purloin a radio from a which trooper or POC hawk as every physician or medic carries a pager or radio (though smart phones are beginning to replace both) You could sculpt a kidney basin but you'd need epoxy or green stuff. I'm currently trying to figure out how to make a tape measure, blood pressure cuff and suture kit. That's pretty much all I've ever carried on my person as either an EMR or physician. (Other than tape. LOTS of tape) If you need more you're going to the hospital or ambulance. You could also consider giving them a tablet as medical records are increasingly electronic and basically all X-rays, CTs etc are only on screens now. You basically never see a film X-Ray outside of orthopaedic joint replacement surgeries (and for those only because you need a standard size to compare to the guide to get the right implant for the person - this will change when the manufacturers properly digitize their guides) |

Toys R Us has some medical accessories in their Animal Planet sets. ROC Cobra Commander has that needle-like syringe, Arctic Doc has similar accessories that Lifeline came with, LEGO has some syringes and Chap Mei has some medical accessories.

Oh shit! Thanks for sharing that with me. I swear I tried to snoop through your post history to see if I could find any examples of stuff you'd made before I posted and asked ya. I totally missed it. (But, I was dealing with the onset of a migraine, and admittedly, was a little lazy, and hasty in my looking)
This was a crazy helpful post, man. Thanks a LOT for the lesson on gear, and tactics you used to make stuff. I have a spare Lifeline kit already from the ME Lifeline, and the carrying case from the ARAH version. That's covered. I have several v27 Fireflys... so, the O-scope is going to be covered perfectly! (Also, going to make my Lifeline's removable as yours is! Killer idea btw, for everything really!) Good call on the pager/comms device. I have one of those from 50th Hawk on my Lifeline already. I'll definitely want to find another for Eternalcon Doc. There's room on his vest for it, perfectly. Great intel for the stethoscope, too. Going to get on crafting it as soon as I'm done writing this. I've a coax cable ready, plenty of black hoses too. I got a laugh, too. You made perfect use of that screaming Duke head. It's like it was tailor made for that. Brilliant. Also, for the Blood Pressure cuff... Do you have any of those velcro wire wrap/ties sitting around? Most recently, I had a bunch come with my new cable box. Gonna look for them now. Cutting one of those down to size, and running a soldering iron along the edges of it to prevent any fraying is what I'm going to try doing. I think something like that, along with the air-tube/bulb glued to it would work well. Suture kit, I could only suggest small gauges of kanthal wire for. I have a bunch of it, and will check how well that might work. Thanks again for the intel, and help. Definitely going to wind up with a better than stock stethoscope for Doc (AND Lifeline!) tonight. Finalized a working prototype for a stethoscope.
Thanks, Lifeline_MD for the tactics. Check it out here in this picture. I found a clear coated wire for the ear parts. Removed some of the coating and twisted the bottom part of it. Slid that into one of the ARAH black hoses, and really had nothing to use as the bell. The 3 coax cables I pulled apart had NO type of metal pieces Lifeline indicated in his posts. So, I just improvised and wrapped the wire around it. Gave it a quick and ugly paint job. Here it is. And here it is on EternalCon Doc. Not too bad. My Lifeline is gonna get one too, Last edited by MikeEyes; 08-05-2017 at 08:56 AM.. |
