Hey people,
I've been on the tank for about four years. I've been customizing for three. I rarely post my customs, maybe because I'm too lazy, or just do it for a creative outlet and enjoy it for myself. I became a customizer because I wasn't getting figures from Hasbro that I badly wanted, so if they wouldn't sell it, I was determined to make it. In the journey of learning I asked many questions to some of the greats on the tank and took a Jin Saotome customizing class (looking through his wonderful tutorials until my eyes bled.) One of the other things that fueled my creativity is hundreds of hours looking through the custom section here on the tank. Every custom that inspired me, I collected the pictures off the forum here on my computer and analyzed each figure over and over. When ever I'm bored I pull up the pics and look at what has been done. Most figures I see I can now tell you the recipe without ever asking the creator. Today as I was perusing the customs I had a thought that I've had many times. Why doesn't Hasbro look closely at the recipes of the customs here on the tank and recreate them. The people on here KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK on so many of their parts choices. I'm sure there are some people that work for Hasbro on here. Matty Collector did a fanfavorite contest where they had fans create figures and the top six were chosen as winners, the number one will be produced with the possibility of the others popping up in the future. What a wonderful idea. I think it would be stellar if Hasbro would follow suit for a 7 pack or something. I'm sure Tankers would be all over it. Needless to say, I see much better recipes for figures on here than many of Hasbro's own work. I personally think it would be to their advantage to utilize the creativity of the brilliant minds around here to further their cause in creating the figure line we so love and adore. With that I also say thank you to the creative community here that is so inspiring. You're all so wonderful at what you do. So there it is, Hasbro... take a good look at what's happening around here, you have some people to learn from. |

1. Most customs are designed and made without any thought to Cost, Mold location, mold availability, or part compatibility... It's easier for Hasbro to just work their policies as they see fit... If an idea (Python Croc Master) gets lifted every now and again...fans can be happy...but also must remember that dual inspiration can happen and and just because it may have happened doesn't mean it did happen.
2. The GI Joe Collectors Club is a sucktastic club...It would be up to them to incorporate fan feed back...but the only feedback they care to get from fans is preceded by $...it's unlikely that fan input on figures will ever really happen. |

I'll echo nova's thoughts as they are right on. Customizers don't have limits when it comes to what they use. Upper arms don't fit? Fine, just sand them down or modify them. If Hasbro wants to use the same parts combo, they have to invest in new molds, which has an impact on cost, etc.
To the OP, I applaud the sentiment about being inspired by fellow customizers, but the reality of designing and mass-producing toys isn't so simple. Believe me, Hasbro's designers aren't ignorant nitwits. They are creative professionals that love the brand as least as much as we do. If they can get an idea or two of these boards, then fine, but they don't have anything to learn from here. OB
