Anybody else have a problem with red or orange plastic bleeding through white paint? This happens to me constantly. Check it out.
I put a coat of gray primer on this & it covered perfectly. It was gray. Then I put a coat of white paint & the orange plastic bled through. So then I put another coat of primer, then 2 coats of aluminum/silver. It was solid silver. So I started to paint it white again & look at this shit This same thing happened to me when I painted my Razorback & Parasite white. I don't understand why or how this is happening. It only happens with white paint. How can the red or orange from the plastic get through 2 coats of primer & 2 coats of aluminum? How is the white paint sucking the color from the plastic to the top???? |

the dye, it's the only thing i can think of. i know in my line of work, i have to oil prime certain things, with stain blocker. say pen, or marker, yellow from cigarette smoke. some things just come through with a white top coat. perhaps, since you already have a base coat on, try some spray stain blocker. zinser has a can, or any sherwin williams has their own brand, it should bite to the base coat, and the top coat will definitely bite to the primer. i'm just not sure if primer will bite to plastic. never tried it..

Your white paint is eating through the primer to the plastic.
It's a reaction referred to as "too hot" meaning your paints are not chemically compatible(the white paint is "too hot" for the primer and eats through it). Ask Shipwreck about this, he knows a lot more about it than I do> http://www.hisstank.com/forum/members/shipwreck.html

Try wet sanding it a bit to make it porous then apply a light coat of primer ... try using the same brands of spray like TTT said .. this happens to me all the time when i paint murals Some paints do not mix and they either crack or bleed through

krylon aluminum Krylon semi-gloss white And I've tried the cheap white paint you get at Walmart in the blue can. Not sure what brand it is. Seems like every white paint does this. I'm gonna have to try hand painting it with Testors model paint & see what happens. Last edited by Steelgrave; 11-12-2011 at 10:36 AM.. |

if the white is a oil base, that could be the problem, the oil base may be reacting to the plastic. try stain killer primer. that holds back bleeding, like i said, i don't know it will bond to plastic, but it will bond to other paints. and other paints bond to the blocker if it be latex or oil.
