I've always loved the concept of the Cobra Hammerhead. A rugged, amphibious assault vehicle. But I never quite liked all the extra subs that are hanging all over the place.
I have an idea to take some of the concepts of that vehicle and make a custom using the Rolling Thunder as the base vehicle. An amphibious mobile missile site. The other part of that idea is the missiles could be removed, and the bay retasked for a personnel carrier. Some of the things I like about the RT for this custom: It's a (relatively) low profile, sleek vehicle, the gun platforms look like fins to some degree, the main cannon sort of looks like one of the subs on the Hammerhead... I just got a nearly complete Rolling Thunder in the mail today for this project. But I am still pretty much just in the brainstorming phase at the moment. I'm hung up on some sort of underwater propulsion system though. My first thought was to use the fan and housing from the Whale hovercraft, but the back end is angled and slides back to deploy the missiles. Not impossible to customize, just difficult. My second thought was to have some sort of engine/propeller (x2?) on the back end similar to other amphibious vehicles. Any thoughts or further ideas on this concept? |

My only thoughts are, get started and take some pics of the WIP. I am excited!

I like the Mantis idea. The Water Moccican is nice too, but I wager parts are harder to come by.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Those are selling for a pretty penny these days and haven't been around long enough for parted out ones to start showing up.

I like the Mantis idea. Mounting them under the gun platforms on the back seems like it would be perfect based on the pics. I haven't seen a Rolling Thunder in person, though. Someone here has made one into an APC for Star Wars figures that came out really well. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Wouldn't it be easier to mod the Hammerhead into something with far fewer subs/jetskis?
