The Wal-Mart spray paint has been working great so far, but I want to use a few different colors for some smaller detailing.
I noticed on the back of the Testors brand enamel paint it said don't use on acrylic or polypropelene plastic. I've read elsewhere that colors such as red or blue are very thick and can sometimes dry and leave a sticky feel. On the otherhand, the acrylic paints looked very watery so I wasn't sure how well that paint would cover. I've heard others talk about using Apple Barrell paints. Should I take back the Testors enamel paint in favor for acrylic or Apple Barrell that I bought this morning?

Model Master acrylic is the best paint on earth for Joes! It dries hard, scratch resistant, coats well, washes off brushes with water. You might want to spray it with a sealer, but it is awesome!!!

Never use Enamel! Reds, blues and greys will never fully dry on soft plastics and it takes forever to dry on hard plastic. I had a soft joe helmet stay tacky for years when I painted it with grey enamel paint. Acrylic is the way to go. Model Masters and Tamiya are both great paints

I found that tamiya acrylic are more forgiving than Enamels by testors.

I'm using Liquitex Basics acrylic right now but it does leave the figure a little tacky in touch. I'm definitely thinking about switching to Tamiya or something else.

I always used Liquitex tube paints for years -about 15. Then I found model master acrylic paints and those have become my preferred type of paint. Really great stuff, goes on nice and smooth and you don't need to do too many coats. You may still have to seal it (at least I do for extra protection) but the stuff is really great.
I've heard people mention Tamiya and Apple Barrel but I"ve never tried those so I can't say anything about them. |
