Hey guys. Those Big H custom Tomax and Xamot got me thinking. I really like the way that he used "rare, exclusive" figures to make his custom suited Tomax and Xamot. I think its cool because it demonstrates a purity of interest in the hobby w/o regard to "ebay value".
I noticed something interesting lately about myself as well. Ive found that I enjoy making custom figures more than actually collecting the 25th figures. If necessary, Ive raided my only carded version of a figure if I need the parts...regardless of thier value. Its weird, especially since I dont feel bad about it. Am I alone on this? I guess (like model making) I enjoy the "process" more than the end result. (A lot of the time my end result sucks...but I dont care ![]() Last edited by Wyo; 08-05-2008 at 08:37 PM.. |

i know exactly how you feel...i have, since my first custom, enjoyed it more than actually collecting the mass release figures...i do not however, feel to cool about having to open my few MOCs...not that i'm worried of their value, it's just they look so pretty...i have used a part of a w2 vehicle before they were mass released (when only a couple people had found them at K-mart) and felt kinda squemish/guilty about it...
it's so much fun to show off your work to people who actually appretiate it and are not patranizing you (like a wife would) |

i enjoy making customs, and don't worry about replacing figures (even now that i've cut waaay back on collecting). however, when i look at my customs next to official release figures, they just don't quite compare. i may be alone here, inasmuch as my customs aren't the world's greatest, but even with the best customs i've ever seen by others here at the 'tank... there is something about them that just aren't quite 'real'. dunno, maybe it's just me.

for the most part, i enjoy the process of customizing more than collecting. i'll buy an extra figure to kitbash rather than using one i already own. I slowed down a bit....waiting to see what else Hasbro will release before i make another. I started on a wraith custom and a week later hasbro announced him in a future wave. i'm trying to do customs that hasbro won't likely release.

I enjoy customizing more than collecting. I don't keep any figures MOC. Every figure is purchased loose, unless it's a harder to find figure, in which case I either hunt for at retail or trade. All my figures have been acquired at retail price or cheaper. Every Joe gets turned into a Cobra, unless it's one I had as a kid. They all sit on my desk to be enjoyed while I'm at the computer.

I really enjoy both apsects of the hobby and i do sometimes enjoy customizing more than collecting. If i was only collecting it would make the hobby a bit boring for me. My customs are probably my favorite figures of my collection and i dont feel they are cheap knockoffs.
