first off...kudos to all the figures you create.....but i am curious to know something.
when hasbro finally releases a figure of a character that you've already made custom....and of course the hasbro version is usually NOT as good.... do you still buy the hasbro version? |

depends. I've made a few star dusters and i know the "Skyduster" comin out aint up to snuff compared to mine and several others up here. Still i would buy it cause since its alread molded blue I would just have to touch up the legs with green camo and put a star outline in black on the helm then hes fully poseable without worry about oo much paint chipping. So if its something i don;t have to do a lot to then yeah but if my version is the clear winner probably not :>

I have many instances of this happening. In every case, I buy the Habsro version as well. This is how the breakdown goes for who's my default figure
Breaker - Custom (Mine blows Hasbro's away) Viper - Hasbro (Mine just isn't good enough) Starduster - Hasbro ( I had the parts assembled but not painted...now I don't have to) Yellow Diver - Hasbro (The paint on mine are horrible) Maj. Bludd - Custom ( I had to buy a Hasbro version to make my custom ) Cutter - Custom (But I'll use their body and make a new head again) Ripcord -Cusbro (I have a custom, but their Ace V2 is a better custom of Ripcord, so technically I'm using their toy but calling it something else) I included upcoming figures as well since a lot of them seem to be closely related to recent customs we all have been doing |

I ponder that same exact questions ALL the time. So to avoid such needless waste of money buying characters for parts, I make characters I doubt has bro will make. Like Sgt. Slaughter, or Zarana a while back. or updated versions of characters.

I try to only make characters that will probably not be made. Obscure characters and original characters are good for this. I often look to the odd "international" characters as inspiration. I've had a good run so far nothing I've made has been released. If it were to happen, I would have to decide if I like the Hasbro version better, or if it would in turn be good to bash into something else. In the case of new & improved releases, such as a "classic design" Zartan or Major Blood, I would probably buy the new ones and then bash the previous versions. I only need one of each character in my collection.

I've gone out of my way to avoid making customs of characters I thought Hasbro would make, hence why you see character like Tracker, Payload or Backstop coming from my factory. I stalled on Starduster even though I made the card, and voila, it paid off. I like making customs, but I'd rather have an official figure.
but I did make a Ninja-Ku when the line was first released, and still picked up the wave 9 Storm Shadow. and I made a Leatherneck recently and as soon as I did, Hasbro announced he'd be coming with a new Awe Striker. that I probably won't pick up unless the figure is spot on with the original. if not, I don't need another Awe Striker so I'll stick with my version. |

I mostly just do little "fixes" to the figures, and so far they haven't re-released anything that I've done (I didn't make a new Bludd). If my Cutter hat ever arrives, I'll like it much better than Hasbro's version. I'll have to have the official version of Short-Fuze to see which I'll like better.
I did a Flint using the TF Flint arms. If Hasbro releases a version like this, then I'll buy one to keep carded but the repaint was easy enough that mine will probably always be my default version.

For the most part I try to stick with figures I know Hasbro wont make. Like a few others have said I try to go for the more obscure figures or a figure that never made it into the line to begin with. The only figure that I have made so far that Hasbro is putting out is Starduster. The only reason I made him was because after seeing the upcoming pics of the new star duster figure I really didnt like the look of him. I do not need a Repainted Duke figure which all Star Duster is. I went with a somewhat different approach on a few parts for my Star duster so I prefer my custom over anything Hasbro will put out.

depends on a lot of things...
hasbros Steeler is so lame that i imagine most who have made one would prefer theirs to Hasbros and maybe just use his head and harness off of Hasbros, as i have... i made a Clutch knowing Hasbro was gonna release one cause i was too impatient, and i thought Hasbros was perfect (aside from the Duke arms)...when i got the official one, i didn't know which to display as i loved mine so much... when i get short-fuse i'll be swapping my accurate harness on to him i like my cartoon diver shipwreck better, his harness looks better...does the Hasbro one even have a harness? i have lots of instances, but like me and many have said, it just depends... either way, for me i have so much fun making and posting to share that i don't even care if we end up with an official release of something i've made... |
