I really love the look of the sash. I'm not so much into the stiffness of the belt. As to authenticity, it really depends on what you're studying, where, and who from-- some rank belts are more sashlike, sometimes rank belts aren't used at all, and sometimes a stiffer belt is used in practice and a nicer sash would be used in competition/for show.
Also, sometimes having a flow-ier sash on hand is a tactical advantage, though that's more in the vein of Chinese swordsmanship than Japanese... but having a long, loose piece of fabric or large tassel is sometimes used to hide the fighter's movement to keep an opponent from knowing where you're aiming. Anyway, sorry for getting off on a tangent there... Also, nice costume! It's got some eye-catching coolness, but it also looks like it's comfortable enough to walk around a con in, which is a huge plus! (I'm always in favor of any costume with a nice, loose-ish fitting pant instead of skirts or leotards...)

I rekon the sash. When i was younger i did ninjitsu at a proper ninja school and there were no coloured belts for rank the belts just hold up their pants, I think it's more karate that has the coloured belts. Anyway I think the sash looks more traditional and cerimonial which if Jinx was going to the con I'm sure she would wear her sunday best. I think you should wear it with the knot to the side aswell.

yea the belt is... tight x.x
it is comfy actually but yea... still not taking a staff too much to carry around... specially if i am doing photo ops... the only thing i have to do is fix the mask.. too large of a gap in that opening yes i am critical of myself!! lol
