With the increase threat of Cobra in an urban environment, GI Joe needed a new Main Battle Tank to full-fill this task. The current political winds dictated that they must use what equipment they already have.
Clutch, Steeler, Mainframe, and Heavy Metal got together and went through what they had in the motor pool. They needed a tank that was fast, which the drive-train of the Mauler provided without question, but they needed the firepower of the Mobat. Then it came to them, what if they put the turret of the Mobat on the Mauler, add some extra close in firepower from one of the .50 cal's, upgraded the computers from the officers lounge (after removing all the viruses) and Clutch was able to finagle some extra boost from e-bay. And what was born? The Liberator! An ARAH custom I did last summer..... ---------------------------------------------------- Tech Specs .50 cal heavy machine gun (turret mounted) -Ball rounds -HEAP rounds -Phosphorous rounds -Tracers 133 mm "Devastator" main cannon -HEAT -Smoke -HARP -Bunker Busters 15.8L (bored out from 13L) v12 quad Turbo Diesel engine -3600 bHp -4 T8 Techtronics Turbos -Road Speed, 105 mph -Off Road speed 70 mph -Range 650 mi. Reactive/radar/heat resistant Armor VHF/UHF/Short Wave/Sat-Com communications system 5th Generation Night vision and FLIR Windows 8 w/ brilliant battlefield FOF/movement prediction/multiple target acquisition. ---------------------------------------------------- The Build.... I used: 1 Mauler 1 MOBAT 1 .50 cal from the machine gun defense unit a McDonalds Straw a spray tube from a WD-40 can Krylon Camo Fusion Kaki Krylon Camo Fusion Olive Krylon Camo Fusion Black Krylon Satin Italian Olive Krylon Acrylic matte clear coat Drill bits For years, ever sense I saw this version of a GI Joe MBT, I knew I had to make one of my own. I have been pondering how to do so for years, and now, I finally got my butt into gear and did it. I acquired a mobat and mauler for this project off of e-bay. I took the top off of the MOBAT and removed the movable cannon and hot glued the end of the Mauler cannon. I was missing the original .50 cal that came with the mobat so I took a McD straw, cut it down, and super glued it to the turret. I then drilled a hole for the base of the machine gun to slide in so now it moves side-to-side, up-and-down. I also drilled a hole at the end of the barrel to give it a more realistic look. I also drilled out the barrel of the Main gun. Again for realism. How did I mate the mobat turret to the mauler base? Well I took the bottom part of the mauler turret and hacked it with my dremmel until it matched the mobat part. I did have to hack down the gunner turret to clear the electric engine in the mauler (they don't give you much room like they do in the MOBAT). So we have a fully functional mauler drive-train with a mobat cannon that rotates 360 degrees (along with the gunners spot.) One thing I could not come up for this project (or at least I did not want to spend a lot of money on) was antennas. I did some searching on the www and found out that the customize-rs in the plastic car racket use spare plastic and a candle or some other heat source to make the plastic more playable. I tried it with a WD-40 spray straw (after thoroughly cleaning it) and with some practice, got it to work. And now my Liberator has Antennas. I also did some fine detail painting of the engine compartment, and I tell you what, I am way out of practice, hence the splotches, but man they did put a lot of detail into this mold. I also re-used the stickers off of both the Mauler and Mobat (and realized I was out of glue sticks) so they look a little funky, but I could not wait to take pics of this bad boy.

That is killer! What a beast!
This really looks like something we could have seen on the shelves around '84-'85. Great job.
