It's actually a cool little set up. The background picture looks a tad faded but maybe it's the picture. One problem with trying to sell dioramas is that most people will just make them. I have not seen many, if any sell. I've even seen a great background done by someone on here that was the AOCI and DOCI set backgrounds put together and it didn't go.
It is a nice little set up for display but selling it may be tough. It would be cool for some of the new POC figures easily. I could see a Jungle Viper in that big tree waiting. and small dios' for warhammer sells to, there's this dude in canada that makes em and sells em.. |

People will buy "wargaming terrain" for warhammer and stuff because they already have 18 million models to build and paint just to field an army. A Joe collector doesn't have to build anything- so he has that time to devote to making his own custom dioramas if he wants them.
I build terrain when I'm back home, and I'll tell you this- I make some nice stuff, and I could sell it, but even my best pieces that people RAVE about are not likely to recoup the cost in time and materials that I put in. You want to use your dioramas to make money? Use them as cool set-ups to display Joes you're selling- they might help increase the sell price by drawing more looks. But even then trying to make money selling toys is a fool's errand most of the time... Keep your Dios. Build one for every shelf in your man-cave and post pictures to show us how cool it is- the respect you'll get from us is worth more than money anyway... |

Im going to split my response in 2 sections, 1. for the actual dio and 2. for the business side.
To start, your dio is pretty awesome for display, very well done. The items used look like they are in scale which is always important in a dio. For the business side, I'm afraid the way you price it is flawed. Quote:
My price is based on the time put in. The trees you see cannot be purchased. I cut/tore the actual wood from natural trees, but then purchased the fake leaves/plants/moss, and then attached each piece one at a time. Even so with the smaller tree. Its quite time consuming....try it for yourself and you will see.
again, from a purely artistic non business point of view, its fantastic, its kind of inspiring me to make one myself, thumbs up.

1) Like others have said from a non-business side this is a very nice piece of dio, and is inspiring my hand at trying stuff like this.
2) From the business side and I hate to be blunt but it's not worth your asking price to a consumer (a consumer would look at it and break it down into it's components - it has a tree, some moss and a cardboard background and a base - they then would think oh I may pay 10.00 but definitely not 30.00 + S&H - if you were offering figures with it say the ones you had pictured then it would shoot up in price, and you may be able to get a lot more for the dio), I hope this does sell and you prove everyone wrong and you can make others and they sell - however I don't think many people are going to be in the market for it. |

I agree with all of you that many people will not buy them at thirty bucks, but I disagree that it's not "worth it" at that price.
If you make one yourself, you'll have at least $30 into the materials and your time....so for those who do not have the time or the artisitic talent to make one...$30 is a steal. I sell 2D dio's for $10-$20 and they sell...slowly but they sell. a 3D dio like this for $30...bravo!

I'm afraid $30.00 is too much, even if it is for a well built diorama. These are test pics of a simple diorama I made some time back. The background is a cropped and enlarged image from a LOTR trading card while the ground is a product called a "moss sheet" used for floral arrangements. It makes a good substitute for grass. But I couldn't sell it, even if I wanted to, for more than $5.00 because there is no real market for dios. The moss sheet is available everywhere and the background can be made on any printer/scanner/copier. The dio itself is made from foamboard. The only exception would be a dio built around a vehicle or figure that's up for sale... because then the dio would be a "Bonus" with the figure/vehicle.

I appreciate the feedback. This is a test run for me. If it sells, I will make another. If it doesn't, I may try some of your suggestions such as offering a figure or two. Thanks for the compliments as well.
