Haha, yep. I thought the same thing when I saw yours. I actually had the body ready a month in advance of receiving the head from SDS, and then once I got the heads in, I had family in town and didn't get to paint the head up for another two weeks. So I'm finally just getting to semi-properly photographing and uploading.
I think the parts use is pretty spot-on considering his construction, and I hope to see some more Dogfights in the future. He's an underrated Joe in my opinion. |

Now, if the figure is wearing shades or a helmet that obscures the eyes, then plastic all the way. My Lifeline's and Sci-Fi's face paint got a tad too thick because the heads were cast in a bright red plastic and it took too many coats to hide the red underneath. Nothing too bad, it was on par with Hasbro's 25th General Hawk paint apps. As to your question, I have to custom mix all my flesh tones. I haven't found a single color that is perfect straight out of the bottle. I have found that Hasbro tends to keep one "white" flesh tone that's fairly consistent for nearly half of their bare-plastic arms (typical on most "Flint" forearms), but besides that one color, the tones are all over the place. I have tiny plastic "jars" that I got at Tap Plastics (I live 5 miles from one, but you can order online I think) that I mix small amounts that I'll reuse for all my flesh tones. I use mostly Tamiya paints, with a few colors from Games Workshops. GW has an "elf flesh" or something like that which isn't too bad of a start color for "white". I'll start with either a "flesh" tone or "sand" and add yellow/red/brown/white as necessary, and in small quantities, until it matches perfectly, or close enough that it's not noticeable. I paint in thin, light coats and usually takes me 1-2 days of putting on thin layer after thin layer until I get the right coverage. Then there's some touchup later around hairlines, helmets, glasses, eyes, etc. Eyes took me nearly 2 years to somewhat "master" and are a completely different pain in the ass altogether. Hope that helps. |
