Great job! I never liked Robin but this is a great piece of work. You've managed to make Robin not look like a total top!

Because Nolan is too locked into the mindset of making everything "real" to be able to wrap his head around the very comic book-y notion of a teenage sidekick running around beating up bad guys that are shooting at him. That's not a knock on Nolan...his movies have been good, but Nolan is also representative of a current movement that seems to be bound and determined to remove anything whimsical or "too unreal" from any comic book adaptation.
I know there are people that will disagree and think that comic book films should be dead serious, and completely lacking anything that might in any way, shape, or form be considered "silly" but personally I think the comics start to lose something when you start subtracting all the whimsy. Not every comic book story needs to be "Watchmen" or "The Dark Knight Returns." Marvel seems to be doing a better job in this regard than DC, though. You don't have to explain every technical nuance of Iron Man's armor and Tony Stark's technology to an audience for them to accept it...it just -is-. A lot of the other "silly" concepts can work in exactly the same manner. |

yeah i can agree with that. I think that if made properly that a robin would work in the nolan films. however i think even if nolan decided to put robin in one of the films Bale would have another "diva moment" and as amusing as that would be (let us all reflect a moment to recall bales last diva moment lol) it would be disasterous as bale is a terrific batman. Still it would be ncie to see robin in the films. even if nolan doesnt make him into the third film if another director (someone mention fincher) i think that giving robin and armored up look would be really good provided the actor was good.
I think my only gripe with Nolan is I'd like a bit more of the "odd" with Batman. I liked the "look" of Schumacher's Gotham (although no ass shots of Kilmer, no nipples, and a bit less neon and definitely lose the camp no place for that in Batman). Take that and mix it with Burton's vision of Gotham and you'd have a pretty cool look I think. I liked Anton Furst's comment (the set designer for 89 Batman) where he said "He wanted Gotham to look like hell had erupted through the surface" and I think that is pretty dead on. |
