Hey Thanks guys glad you all like them and thanks for the great compliments.
To answer your questions about the parts list Outback head-comic pack 2 pack Hawk sculpted on hair, beard, etc. torso down to waist-Wolverine Origins movie wolverine Waist up to belt-Outback figure with sculpted on detail and height arms-25th Storm Shadow Gloves-BBI WWII figure Upper legs-25th Dusty Lower legs,backpack,-Outback figure harness-from mult 25th figures Just realized on this guy to that I removed his pouch from his right side and forgot to paint that spot, whoops. Footloose Torso,waist,legs-pit commando -modded the upper chest area to bring the shirt down more to reflect the '85 figure better. Upper arms-25th 5 pack flint Lower arms-25th Flint Head-Star Wars Biggs head modded. Helmet-VvsV Rollbar helmet modded and taken from my JvsC era Footloose Hands-I'm not sure various 25th figures Mercer Head- Vintage comic pack Hawk pack that came out a few years ago Vest-Resolute viper modded by removing pouches, smoothing out and adding gun and holster, also sculpted on shoulder details Upper Arms-I'm drawing a complete blank on that one Lower Arms-Bazooka -right arm modded with gauntlets sculpted and communiator from 25th Tomax Arm Band- Jakks wrestling Sgt Slaughter figure Left Hand-Bazooka Upper Body-25th Snake Eyes Lower Body-25th Firefly -sculpted details to belt and pants Upper Legs-Resolute Viper -sculpted padding on sides of legs Lower Legs-Major Bludd Desert Pack Feet-25th Viper Scrap Iron Head,Vest-25th comic pack Scrap Iron Torso-25th Viper -sculpted harness to waist area to resemble original figure Arms, Right Leg, Knee Pads-25th Airborne figure Left Leg- 25th Duke Lower Legs-25th Beachhead modded for height Mainframe Head- Star Wars POTF2 Wedge Head Torso-25th Duke -sculpted collar to resemble cartoon look and shoulder flap detail, sculpted buckle to belt (tough to find a use for t his thing but worked well for Mainframe I thought) Upper Arms- 25th Duke -sculpted sleaves Lower Arms- 25th figures various Gloves, Harness- comic pack Mainframe Upper Right Leg- I don't remember but I think it is from the desert pack Mjr Bludd Upper Left Leg- 25th Firefly -added phone detail to his gizmo on that side Lower Legs-25th Airborne Feet-25th Viper Straps for his knife- 25th Nightcreeper for the front, middle harness piece from 25th Cobra officer I believe Knife-BBI WWII figure Helmet- I don't even remember what this started out as. I think it was a helmet from BBI I dremeled the hell out of the inside and then extended it down on the sides with AB putty. smoothed that out, then added the rim to it and then finally added the boxes Mainframe had on the side of his helmet. Dial Tone Head, Arms-25th Airborne -shaved down the sides of his face to try and alter it a bit from the actual Airborne figure, also changed the shape of his nose a bit. Also grabbed an old piece I've had laying around forever for his right arm gizmo Beret-JvsC Stalker figure hollowed out Upper Body, Hands-25th Airborne Lower body-25th Snake Eyes Upper Legs-25th Shipwreck -sculpted pouch on left leg Lower Legs-25th Cobra Trooper Harness-25th Duke Harness, 25th Cobra Trooper Harness -sculpted details on both and added cut off parts (believe Movie Destro's gun) Luke Skywalker-Bespin Fatigues Pretty straight forward the head is from a Dagobah Toys R Us crash pack that came out a few years ago. I sculpted the hair to that figure. Then just repainted everything. Drilled a hole into the top of his lightsaber, added a thread to it and glued it in. Coming up Dr.Mindbender General Hawk '86 and '91 versions Lift Ticket and a few more that are still assembling their "parts" Thanks again guys Last edited by DavAnthony; 08-30-2010 at 11:25 AM.. |

Wow.... Just wow...
To be honest, I don't click too much on threads on custom GI Joe characters ("Snake Eyes v6253879234" or "Yet another Sgt. Slaughter")... No offense meant to the rest, it's just not my cup of tea, and I just see the figures as fodder for customs that I think up of... But, thanks to the new Customs Forum layout (great idea guys!!), I saw the preview of this Outback head as I was scrolling down, and boy oh boy!! This thread does not disappoint!! I can't really say which figure I like the most, but what I do love is the fact that you've given each one of them character... Wait, let me rephrase that... Each of them already has a character, a personality, but you've given each figure real depth, real individuality... In short, one word - Awesome!!!

Thanks again guys and Zeplin I appreciate your post and you nailed on the head what I try to "go for" with my customs.
For me one of the reasons I loved GiJoe as a kid was the fact that the characters were so well defined. You had their awesome (and sometimes comedic) file cards. You had a really great comic and a cartoon that did such an awesome job of making each character unique. The amazing job the writers, producers, directors, and actors did in balancing all of the aspects of that show is something that really hasn't been done much in cartoon-world. For me when I make a custom I really try to "capture" who the character was and is and what they represented to me as a kid and now an adult. Sometimes its harder-like with a Downtown I'm working on now-so I'm throwing my own things into it. But other times its easy-what makes Recondo Recondo or Outback Outback. Giving them that depth and capturing their personality is one of the things I love about doing Joe customs more than any other type of custom out there. |
