This is a WIP.
I need some help here. I need to figure out what hat to give him. The vintage one's plastic is too hard and because I do all my drilling by hand, it's too hard for me. I'm thinking of using the G.I.Joe Vs Cobra Frostbite head which I can hollow out by hand and use that as a helmet just to be different. Does anyone have an extra one to trade me? Also, I don't want to paint the fur. Should I cut off the shoulder pieces of the fur or would it look weird after it's cut because I don't want to paint? Anyways, here's the pics so far. Thanks to mswi for painting the beard black for me. Any help that anyone can give me regarding his head gear would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Darn! That knit cap looks perfect. I've never seen this guy before. Wonder if he was available in Canada ever.

Looking good so far, i'm doing something similar with a RoC arctic SE...
A couple thoughts: -Hat: i'd give it a try to hollowing a vintage hat. I do the drilling by hand too, and i don't even use a drill, i use a small gouger and xacto knife. Plastic is hard, but that makes it easier to sand off. Since you're using a SJ head, which is quite small on the top (and made of soft plastic) you shouldn't have so much troubles. -I won't cut the shoulder fur. Note how low the shoulders are compared to the head. It's meant to be compensated with the fur collar and shoulders, if you cut them, it's ll look like he has no shoulders. Or, if you cut them, you might have to sand down the collar, then accomodate the head lower by working the neckpost and head...too much work, i think.

Lobotomize him and ROC Shipwreck. Swap the tops and POW! You're done.

If you sold on a "soft" hat, I don't have any new suggestions. The Luke Cage one is a great idea.
This would be a good project to try sculpting on, too. If you're open to helmets (might be too far off from the original figure), the Mutt helmet might be an interesting choice. |
