I've been meaning to make Sub Zero to complete my 1988 ARAH updated line for quit some time now. Problem is I don't have all the parts I need in my area and I'm too impatient to wait on crap bought online.
I decided to make an ROC/Modern Era style Sub Zero out of the TRU Arctic Shipwreck. At first I was going to just repaint him white and paint the accessories baby blue like the original, but that was way to easy so I repainted the grey camme pattern that was already on the Shipwreck figure baby blue. I tried to combine real world with ROC style while maintaining the intergity of the original figure. I think it turned out nicely for such a simple figure. I figured it was just an updated version of my old Gortex jacket with the woodland print that i got issued in South Korea. It also kinda sorta matches the ROC Joe blue pattern so it's got that going for it. I based the scheme on his gear on the old woodland cammo pattern that was used before the stupid ass digi garbage. The straps and pieces of material that line the actual pouches are a solid baby blue and the base material has the cama pattern on in. I also painted the exposed canteen OD green for added realism. The figure has the trademark Sub Zero parka hood, but I left it down. I couldve sanded it and used the Snow Job hood but I was basing this figure off of the GIJOE Origins issue that introduces us to Snow Job. It picks up when he's finished with his mission and he's just starting to download his gear and hop on the freedom bird to go back home. I think I accomplished that look. I left the beard on him because anybody who's ever served in below 0 temp environments such as myself, withh tell you that shaving is a BITCH and you avoid it at all costs or until some dipstick officer gets mad at you. Ols Subby here is an 0-2 and from what I gather the OIC of the Joes Artic team so even though he's a worthless 2nd Lt he can get away with letting his men grow a beard especially in a remote area that he's not even supposed to be in, hunting down Snow Serpents. I also added a little bit of rosey colored shading to his ears, the tip of his nose and his cheeks because when it's below freezing and the wind kicks in your face WILL take a beating. ROC/ME Sub Zero Full Battle Rattle I didn't give him an LBV or an LBC and opted for the Bandoleer for his magazines because I can tell you from experience that wearing an LBV or an LBC over your sniffle gear sucks. It's a pain in the butt to re adjust when you download your sniffle gear. I figure at first the Sub Zero the "all knowing by the book officer" instructed them to maintain the "integrity of the uniform" but Blizzard (being an NCO) kicked him in the ass and told him how things are really going to go down.

He's an O2, probably about to get promoted to Captain and get himself a battle staff position on the Joe team, so that means he's going to have a desk to goto every morning. What do offficers love to polute their desks with? War trophies. Subby here managed to kill off a couple of seal hunters and take a harpoon, and he got himself a bonified confirmed kill when he shot up that snow serpent. That helmet is going to look SICK next to his Desktop and autographed Toby Keith 8x10
Well there he is. Hope you like it.
