A mate of mine bought me a crappy Soldier Force toy set from my local K-Mart a few weeks ago. I used the head of the Soldier on a PTE body for my Diorama but I wasn’t sure what to do with the rest of the set. The Jeep appeared to have potential, and with heavy modification so does the bunker, but I didn’t know where to start.
Thanks to tenerifecrimson’s terrific “Gi Joe Desert Long Range Recon Vehicle” I had all the inspiration I needed. I pulled it to bits and started painting. This vehicle is basically a long range, high speed, recon unit and as such, is only lightly armed and armoured. It is equipped with a large calibre machine gun mounted to the passenger hard point. I’m also working on a missile rack for the back, but I’m not sure that I’ll bother putting it on. I guess it depends how well it turns out. I don’t think it really needs it, though. The paintwork was a relatively simple affair. Mask wheels, spray body green, brush blotches of hooker/olive/forest greens for camouflage pattern and paint all “bare metal” parts such as the wheel rims, roll cage, bull bar, antenna, roof and various fittings with a metallic grey (Tamiya gunmetal). The tyres and seat and other details were finished with black carbon. There are a few wood coloured applications also, such as the axe and a crate in the back. The only unfinished paint app is the lights on the bull bar. I don’t have a suitable colour for them, so for now, they are grey undercoat. I did intend to apply green camo to the metallic painted areas, but I like the metal look, and so will leave it as is. Lastly, the steering wheel has been moved from the middle to the left, as there is room for two troops on what is essentially a bench seat. Here are some images of the finished product: |

And some images with a team on board. A pair of Green Shirts lead by Zartan “Master of Disguise”.
Some images of the vehicle in action can be found in the latest update of My PTE/G.I. Joe diorama. Thanks for looking. - Ian |

Nice work. I like the chains on the rear tires.
