Well I was doing a little spring cleaning today and found this custom that I never quite finished (the cockpit). I had completely forgotten about this, and was pleasantly surprised to see it today. I did it about 3 years ago.
It was done during my "Crimson everything" phase. I like it and think I will finish it with some touch ups and try to get some decals to apply. Any comments? SORRY, forgot to add that it is from the Elite Operations line I believe so it is compatible with 3 3/4 figs. I also found the figures and accessories that came with it, so I can't wait to add the ladder, etc. |

Crimson isn't a good color for a plane but it looks nice though it would probably look better with decals. Maybe some weathering touches or battle damage would help too.

Yeah it needs some decals, and some more detailing to break up some of the red. I'm just not sure what yet.

I like the red. I agree with everyone about the weathering, decals, and more detailing. Maybe a black wash would do the trick.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. What exactly is a "black wash?"
I have heard the term before, but I'm not sure what it entails. |

This technique works for lots of colors, just make sure you're "washing" with a darker color over a lighter color. It's also effective to "drybrush" over the washed area once it dries with a lighter color. That's a technique where you get as little paint on the brush as possible and brush lightly over the desired area. Dip your brush in the paint and wipe the excess off on a paper towel. Then carefully paint over the area. Base color, darker wash, lighter drybrush. |
