One thing that has always bothered me about Joe figures was some of the weird looking guns, colors, and combos of weapons they gave some of the different figures. Some of them make a lot of sense, some of them just seem plain weird. Being a "gun guy" myself, this has always bothered me, and once I discovered Marauder's Gun Runners ( Marauder "Gun-Runners" Home Page ) a LOT of my problems were solved.
Over the past 2 or 3 years I have managed to accumulate through different sources (some 25th, Marauder's, other figure lines) a lot of the guns I wanted or at least the ones I thought were more appropriate or at least "looked better" for a lot of my 25th figures. Beyond that I modified and painted a lot of them to get them even more real world accurate like I wanted them. Here's just a few examples - This is a basic Marauder Gun Runner AK-47. A little brown paint on the wood furniture (these come molded in black, but they are textured, you could use them as just Aks w/ black plastic furniture, but I felt the wood gave them a little more detail ) and then some black dry brushing to give the wood some "grain" color, and there you go! Here's some others - This is the basic Hasbro "Dragunov" sniper rifle that a lot of the Cobra trooper figures come with. Again, just a little brown paint in the right places and some dry brushing for grain (very little here) and you get some nice detail added to your figures for display. Marauder's "tactical" style shot gun and Flint's pistol gripped shotgun w/ top folding stock - again, not a lot, just in the right spots. I think Flint's gun really looks a lot nicer, but I like having a SG w/ the full stock too. Plus Marauder's gun can take their option side mounted ammo carriers to their SG, but I felt it bulked up the gun too much and didn't like the way this one came out. |

Here's the classic Joe "XMLR-3A laser rifle" and pistol gripped AK. I wanted to paint one of the XMLRs just to see how it looked (kind of like in the cartoons). I've got a modified one of these I am working on for Snow Job, it's got a magazine added to it like a M-14 and a scope, so it should look pretty cool on him once done. This pistol gripped AK looks really cool as a "terrorist special". One thing I always HATED about the 25th Snow Serpents was that they came w/ these REALLY cool looking folding stocked AKs, but they were molded in gray. A little black paint and now the SS's look even cooler than they already did. |

Here's two of the Arabic bad guys from the Indiana Jones line, and if they don't make just about the most perfect no need to modify Joe terrorists right out of the box, I don't know what does! A couple of AKs, a Dragunov and an RPG from the 25th Cobra Bazooka Trooper and welcome to the war on terror! I think these guys look sweet for some terrorist a-holes! Ok, here's the 25th Snow Serps. Again, I HATED the color these guns were molded in, the black really cleans them up. RPG is from the same 25th Cobra bazooka Trooper. Last edited by esg2145; 05-09-2010 at 02:43 AM.. |

For a biker gang the Dreadnoks that do have guns look stupid for the most part, Ripper's AK w/ the blade on the end of it is just silly. A little hard to see, but here's the whole crew trimmed out w/ new gear along w/ their specific junk. Zartan's packing a Marauder auto sniper rifle. Monkey wrench w/ an AK. NOW he's got the biker look. Last edited by esg2145; 05-09-2010 at 02:44 AM.. |

Torch is pretty cool as he is w/ his flame thrower / cutting torch as it is, but the AK just trims him out nicely. A little hard to see, but the Z-man's got this really cool auto sniper rifle from Marauder's. Looks like just the thing he'd use. |

Good ol' Buzzer and Ripper. Poor Buzzer, next to Wild Bill one of the most over produced and least desired 25th figures. :( I figured he needed one of the better looking AKs to make up for all the pegs he's still hanging on somewhere. Ripper's got one of Flint's top folding shotguns although it's a little hard to see. I figure a Dreadnok would be the type to have a pistol gripped shotgun. So that's it, not a lot of "real" work paint wise, but again just a few "little" touches that I feel just really help figures on display look a lot cooler. This grew out of how much I hated the way the Cobra troops looked w/ all black AKs, and I thought a little wood on them just really cleaned them up a lot. More to come................. enjoy!

Good idea, but yeah, skip painting the grips. It'll just come off after a few time putting it in figures hands. Also, the Dragonuv's stock should be painted as well.
