I've been doing this a few months now and I have no illusions. I know that I'm not the greatest at this. Hell, I'm nowhere near that. But all I'm really going for here with my customs is fleshing out my Rise of Cobra figures with characters that are most likely never going to get made. It's not easy, as I can't really paint because I have a habit of shaking, so these are all without paint apps for the time being. I don't have much money to spend either, so I generally have make do with what I can get.
So, feel free to share thoughts and any tips are appreciated. First up is Mercer. I absolutely wanted my own version of Mercer, as he is my favorite Joe. Hasbro does not seem to share my love for him though, as he hasn't had a new figure in ages. This is my second go at him, the first was using the Monkey Wrench body as a base. I scrapped that one, as I was unhappy with how long the torso was. If you're wondering about the headgear, he's wearing a helmet because I wanted something that showed visually that he's an ex-Viper. And, since I imagined him as an Elite-Viper in Joeverse, I gave him the Elite-Viper head. It's my way of also trying to keep him unique among the many Mercer customs out there. Parts List Elite-Viper (Rise of Cobra) - Head Monkey Wrench (Rise of Cobra) - Upper arms Tunnel Rat (Rise of Cobra) - Lower arms Iron Grenadier (25th Anniversary) - Hands Cobra Trooper [Blue] (Resolute) - Torso & legs Cobra Trooper [Red] (Resolute) - Vest Last edited by UncleHappy; 01-08-2011 at 01:58 AM.. He's not crappy, and he definitely stands out from all the other Mercers out there.
I like how you used Resolute Trooper legs. |

I am digging that Mercer! Its simplicity is most righteous, and I think I'll have to copy that recipe to have one of my own.

Thanks guys. In a way, he's also a bit of a Resolute Mercer, I guess. It really would have been great to have seen the Renegades in Resolute style.

Next up.
Red Jackal I love the old Action Force books and wanted to integrate the Red Shadows into my Joeverse. I decided Anton here would be the first person I'd attempt. He wasn't especially complicated, but I am happy with him all the same. I didn't want him to come off as a Destro clone so instead I took the horrible scarring bit and decided that he should stay horribly scarred. I think it makes him look more imposing to the enemy. Parts List Trinto Duaba (Star Wars: The Legacy Collection) - Head Cobra Trooper [Red] (Resolute) - Torso, arms & legs Snake Eyes [Ninja Commando] (Rise of Cobra) - Belt/Bandolier Cobra Commander [Black] (Resolute) - Pistols Last edited by UncleHappy; 01-08-2011 at 01:56 AM.. |

Daemon
This originally started out as a Sparks figure, but I didn't think the head suited Sparks at all. Much too young, even by ROC standards. But while working on hollowing out the torso so that Tunnel Rat's lower torso could fit inside of it, I was hit by inspiration. There was a young computer expert with G.I. JOE at one time who was rather thin and lanky. Sure, he was comics only character, but I liked him. So, Daemon was given plastic life in my collection. Parts Used Marcus Wright (Terminator: Salvation) - Head, torso, arms, jacket & shotgun Tunnel Rat (Rise of Cobra) - Lower torso & legs Cover Girl (Rise of Cobra) - Laptop |

Blackout
Probably one of the single best things to come from the Devil's Due run were all the new characters. And one of my personal favorite was this Joe turncoat. Basically, he's the other side of the coin to Mercer really. Parts List Duke [Troop Builder 5-Pack] (Rise of Cobra) - Head Red Fang Ninja (Rise of Cobra) - Torso, arms & goggles Cobra Commander [Black] (Resolute) - Hands & legs Sabretooth [Movie Version] (Wolverine: Origins) - Jacket Duke [Reactive Impact Armor] (Rise of Cobra) - Submachine gun Tunnel Rat (Rise of Cobra) - Rifle |
