Hey Tankers, I'm looking for some help with customizing Marvel Universe figures. I've been considering cracking an MU torso to broaden my customizing repertoire, but I'm very hesitant - these things ain't cheap. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips for working with these. Is there an easier method of removing arms at the shoulder besides cracking the torso?
If it makes a difference my current method of cracking Joe torsos is with a large pair of pliers - works like a charm 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is why I hesitate with the more expensive MU fodder. Thanks in advance! |

Don't bother cracking the torsos. If you're working with multiple MU figures just swap at the bicep, if you're going MU to Joe or vice versa slice and swap at the shoulder swivel itself.

take an exacto knife with a larger sturdy blade....remove head from fig....hold fig upside down with neck buried in carpet, (makes it easier so fig doesnt slip) slowly press into upper torso seem at an angle towards the floor. it will pop and after that it is easy. it may leave a small imperfection in the seam once glued back together but it works just fine, I have probably done this 50+ times, no joke...just watch out for black spidey and ms marvel.. they can be very difficult...hope this helps..

Boil it, use a small screwdriver/hammer and slowly taptaptap at a seam that looks as if it could budge a little.

The biggest Issue Im having is the plastic is a little harder and less forgiving than joe plastic, also torso tighness is out the window once a figure is popped. I dont recommend not doing it. The wrapped in a sock and put in a bench vice works very well as far as avoiding damage, the exacto method seems to cause too much damage, and on figures that dont wear belts packs, jackets, etc its hard to hide these flaws without serious repair being done.

Any reason why neither of these figures included backscrews?

another lil tip here is once the blade is in twist it mainly on the harder to open ones and don't forget magneto that body gave us a lotta shit too ended up breaking part of his lat off. |
