Thanks to a forum member, I picked up a BBI Humvee for custom fodder. I decided to make a Joe vehicle out of it with the help of Krylon Non-reflective Nature Color 4293 Olive and a set of Mauler stickers.
this is what i started out with. i stripped it down for painting

Great paint job as always! The decals really make this one shine too. All it needs now is some armaments.

Sweet ride.
That paint job certainly makes a huge difference. Have to love the foot escort/patrol along side the vee |

This inspired me to do my first custom.I had this same humvee.I think I paid around $6 on clearance at target. It's been sitting waiting for something to do with it.I went ahead and painted it green.I was curious as to how you did the detail work, and what besides lights are detail work. Also where did you pick up your decals.
Mine is a little different from yours,so far.I will post picks when I'm done. Thanks for the idea.I've been having a lot of fun! |

thanks for the compliment. i have found my inspiration to continue customs from the many well done projects posted on this forum. if i had more vehicles and some precious free time i'd have many more of these done. for me anyway, i really enjoy and take pride in how they turn out and the process itself is something i really enjoy.
step one always document the original. i take profile pictures of all sides so that i can replace the details after i'm done repainting. you can almost see the process in the iamges in my gallery, http://mini-zracer.com/mini-zgallery...at=1267&page=3 . it always starts with stock photos and moves forward as the project progresses. i used a very fine point paint brush to paint all the detail work. it's very precise work which often takes time but well worth it in the end. you can pick up a good brush from any hobby shop from $2-7. make sure it's short and very fine point. this makes it harder to make mistakes. the details in this case it was the headlights, front hood clamps, all the front, rear and side markers, etc. there were many of the little side markers to paint on this one. i also painted the gas cap recess and still have the door levers/handles to do flat black as well. i simply used mask tape to cover the small detailed sticker on the back left panel as it would have been a shame to cover it up. i bought the mauler sticker set from j. ruben. check the forums here, he has a thread;) i actually have one spare bbi lav that my son has been playing with teasing me to do something with it however i'm kind holding out for the new stryker coming this fall and i'm already well over my display space limit:( when the 25th vehicles come out, i'll likely have to box up many of my customs for storage. i'm already forced to sell my bbi apache/dragonfly due to lack of anywhere to put it anymore.
