Contact a Tanker named Daremo. He's getting damn good at both and he can give you pointers.

Ok
First thing I can see is that you are using Aluminite products, not the best for this type of casting. You should look into Smooth-on.com line of products for a more durable type of resin casts and silicon molds. Next I don't see keys in your two part molds. The best thing to do is to get some clay, and some mold release. Build a clay base around the part. Make sure to put some keys shapes in. Pour your silicon slowly in one corner to help push out the air. At this time, if you have one, put the mold into a preasure pot to remove any air bubbles. Once the silicon is hard, flip over the mold and remove the clay base while the silicon half is still in the frame. Once all the clay is removed, spray some mold release (let it dry) and then pour your other half of silicon. Once that dries, remove the mold from the frame and find the seam line. You should be able to pull the two halves apart. Now your mold should lock into place and reduce the amount of flashing from the resin. Might have to put a couple of rubber bands to hold it together. There are videos on line that cover this and more. Do a google search and you can find all sorts of info on this subject. Even Smooth-on has some videos online. Do your research and take your time, otherwise your are just waisting your time and money. Good luck with this. Last edited by Jedi_Master_Ben; 03-01-2010 at 10:25 AM.. |
