This will be part of a story taken out of context. If you want to read more, most of my stuff is at JoeCustoms (look up drbindy) or Trigate (as Knighthawk). Basically my verse is one where I try very hard to make every cool character I like, from any source, fit in. Then I add in a fair dose of original characters, rinse and repeat.
Knighthawk’s Journal Entry: January 12th. Well the reformation of the team continues. I will miss Heartbreaker and Rogue, but I must admit I am not sad to be bidding farewell to Kara Thrace or William Batson. As I wrote previously, Jessica (HB) had taken quite fondly to “Captain Marvel” since his arrival aboard the Talon. Now that he has been cleared to start his own Paladin team, Jess asked for my consent to her transfer to serve with Batson. I have no confidence that she will get what she truly wants from the arrangement (Batson’s success has quickly gone to his head, I don’t care whether Rogue cleared him or not). But if Deuce is willing to let his kid sister run off with Batson, who am I to stand in the way? It was clear from the start that Rogue was here only to evaluate the “Marvel” for her own part. Her quick departure (allegedly to help re-shape the front office of the Mystics division in light of Merlin’s long absence) has told me more about her true intentions, even with me, than her words ever could. Even so, I will miss her company as she was truly someone I could talk to. Whether or not she was doing so in a professional way no longer matters to me. Starbuck has been recalled to BSG (where the Talon is currently docked for some much needed repair, and some much needed rest for her crew). It seems that the recent surprise attack on the Battle Station, combined with Commander Tigh’s continued imprisonment on Cobra Island, has resulted in most fighter planes being recalled for defense purposes, even before we have been able to make the long awaited - but much delayed – assault and rescue on the MEDUSA prison compound. Privately, the Paladins I speak with all expect some significant damage to come out of this mission, without the proper air cover being provided. We must now hold out hope that President Adama will agree to provide protection for our ships, even if he has already stated that U.S. Armed Forces will not actively participate in the assault itself. Without some help, I think the Green Lanterns will be quickly overtaxed on this mission, and there will be losses as a direct result. Entry: January 14th There are more changes to report. I promoted my most recent trainee, “Squire,” as I had dubbed him, to full Knight status. I did so provisionally, however, with the condition that he be allowed to remain a part of my team. For his part, Leonidas (his new codename I recommended after his valiant defense of the EXCAL civilian transport downed last month in the Mediterranean), seems to welcome remaining here. He has learned some much needed humility in his short period of training, and has demonstrated strength, skill and courage. His pompous sense of entitlement is now a thing of the past, and a true warrior has replaced the person I first met. I like to think that he feels me to be something of a brother to him, and chooses to not leave. However, I suspect that my newly assigned trainee has much more to do with Leonidas’ willingness to stay… Last edited by Dr. Bindy; 02-12-2010 at 11:28 AM.. |

There are things I know about her as fact, things I know only as rumor or suspicion, and then there are the things I know from what I have seen, even while my mind says those things can’t possibly be real. I will never post this journal in any formal capacity, for I fear that if the truth were known, Hellfire might be expelled from the program, or perhaps worse yet, recruited to play some devious role in the arcane plans of EXCAL’s own mystics division. I have investigated her for my own part. Those who have been willing to talk say she was born illegitimately in the Vatican, fathered by a man of the cloth, and of a rank so high, I do not even want to know who it might be. She was secreted off to be raised by those who had no choice but to keep the secret of her origin intact - a sect of the Catholic Church known by few, because those who live within the monastery walls are sworn to an oath of silence. Being raised that way must have really taken a toll on her psyche as a child, for she rebelled against the order early and often. Far from being “holy” she was banished from the order and the community in her early teens, and it was suspected that she had been dubbed a devil child, or at least had been accused of practicing witchcraft. Where she learned to fight remains a mystery to me. I know she spent some time on the EXCAL security detail before applying for the program, but she can’t have learned her skills in that capacity. She wields her broadsword with an almost magical intensity and with such force, yet ease, as to make me doubt whether I should want to face that blade in anger for my own part. She has shown superior skill with the use of every firearm I have tested her on to date as well. We only completed one mission prior to landing, and I am eager to see her skills on display yet again. I have the feeling her apprenticeship has much less to do with me teaching her how to fight, and much more with me learning who the hell she really is. Her fighting aside, it is her other traits that have me shaken. Already I have seen her lay hands, with the power of touch which was believed to be possessed by many of the Paladins of old. I have seen her heal those with minor injuries before my very eyes, and she can boost and empower those with more severe injuries, to get them through until medical care arrives. More troubling, however, is her ability to lay hands in other ways. I have seen her injure by use of her touch, and she may resort to more subtle tactics such as draining the energy, feeding off it, if you will, of those around her. Don’t get me wrong, she’s no vampire. But she has skills and traits which, left unharnessed, could be very dangerous to us all, at least until her true motives are revealed. One thing I saw her do which I am convinced (for my own sanity at least) was a parlor trick was to manipulate flame in a way that I can’t quite explain. Hellfire talks very little, but when she does, it is with a soft, clear and charming voice. She has a keen intellect, and has demonstrated a seemingly genuine respect for my authority and for the purpose of the program. I question the veracity of these traits only because of the history I have learned, if at all. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt, however, that her unique skills were such that those who raised her simply could not abide by them, and that the reason for her prior expulsion had nothing to do with any actual evil intent. Appearance-wise she is striking. Standing nearly six feet tall, at least in her boots, she is lean, agile and strong. She is of remarkable beauty, highlighted all the further by her stark white hair, a trait she was seemingly born with. Her beauty is most apparent in her periods of meditation, something she does often, most usually done with eyes ablaze and staring down the hilt of her blade. It is during her meditations that she surprisingly speaks the most. It seems she has visions. Maybe she channels those from beyond (had she told me her name was Joan of Ark, I might not disbelieve her). She recently told me something that has left me disturbed in a way I cannot shake. While passing, her arm lashed out to grab mine. I felt my head spin. She told me she has seen the gate to the other side. She said she knew I had seen it too. I pretended not to understand. But privately I have wondered, how does she know the imagery from my dreams? I must break from this, and get my thoughts in order. |

Entry: January 20th
As our furlough nears its end, I thought I would resume my update as to my new comrades, before we re-launch the Talon. Roadblock has been with me throughout, but has also begun to indicate some willingness to become more active in the Paladin Knight Program. I think his stated intent to not leave my team will forever hold back his application with Mr. Queen, however. I don’t agree with Marvin’s belief that he owes me some sort of life debt – who really talks like that anymore? But he sees it differently, and always wants to talk about Vienna, which I refuse to do (Christ, he‘s probably written a rhyme about it, for all I know). But simply writing the name of that place makes me ill. In any event, RB has ramped up his own training, and in addition to carrying the thunder, has started to hone his hand to hand combat skills. The face (and size) of the enemy is changing, and we live in a world where even a giant of a man like RB can no longer count on simply being able to toss his opponents aside. (As an aside, I have bought a belated Christmas gift for Roadblock as well. We are stocking up the pantry no doubt, but I bought a grill, which I think he’ll get a kick out of. Of course, it’s really a gift for the rest of us, but he won’t mind.) |

Deuce seems to be in a more serious mood of late, but it could perhaps be the departure of his sister. Everyone here seems to be carrying a quietly intense level of foreboding of late. But I will say this – I would not want to stand in the way of this current lot of angry freedom fighters.
I will also say that I like the new logo that Deuce has made for the Talon, and which he now sports on his bomber’s jacket. Much more fitting in my eyes. |

DaVinci is another new team member, and I have to explain the joke behind the name I gave him here, as any official document could still get me in trouble with a dozen or more international agencies, including my own! This kid has a file that refers to him as “John Smith”, a corporal in the U.S. Marines, granted transfer to EXCAL on the last date open for such requests (before President Adama started his anti-EXCAL rampage).
One look at the kid will tell you he’s no Marine. DaVinci’s real name is slightly more controversial, as Leonardo Fortunato is none other than the son of famed sky pirate Doc Fortunato, under whom I first trained so many years ago. Most people know Doc and I are still on friendly terms, but since DaVinci cut his own teeth working in his father’s robotics lab (technically illegal in its own right), his recruitment to my team might have been frowned upon, to say the least. In any event, he is a real whiz kid, and figures to do his pop real proud as a robotics engineer. He’s much more than that though, and has shown much proficiency in serving as a mechanic, to help replace Heartbreaker aboard the Talon. While we have been docked, I saw to it that he got some additional training to make sure he can keep us running once we set off. He is skilled with an assault rifle, when pressed into service, and has gone through a basic training of sorts since coming aboard, to make sure he can fight and work under pressure. Wait til you see what he can do with a battle mech though. It’s a work of art befitting his codename. I am hoping this will be the last entry before we finally get to proceed with the big assault. Mr. Queen has scheduled a Round Table conference for next week, which I will be unable to attend live, but will certainly video in. Apparently some new intel which might affect the island assault and rescue. Might also have to do with explaining the whereabouts of a Paladin Knight codenamed Hound Dog who has been missing since before Christmas. Apparently his trainee has been questioned at length, so I am hopeful there is some news. PKM02KHTK |

Updated Knighthawk Pics (including new collar, upgraded dry brushing on torso, new pistol, new sword, new belt). The sword is obviously 2 different versions intended to be with and without the hidden hilt blade extended - thanks to O-Loc-Den for the cool blade.

Comments: The team now has a much more uniform look to it (without actual uniforms). Deuce is basically a simple upgrade from an earlier version, with improved head sculpt and details. Roadblock was previously an LBC on the v1 25th base, and is now anything but LBC. I thought I’d just use the ROC Roadblock - but awesome as that figure is, I finally decided it wasn’t EXCAL enough, and so I made this guy instead, using only the hands from ROC RB. Hellfire I am happiest with, as both a unique original character, but also as to her overall look. She started out as a v2 of another original, Steel Rain, but I like where she ended up instead. Her upper torso is a TGC torso, but I switched things up and put it on a Darth Talon bottom torso (fused to a joe waist, for articulation). DaVinci uses a Terminator Salvation torso, fused onto a Joe waist, with the waist swivel intact (the design of the torso hides the seam perfectly without modification, save for transplanting the post onto the Joe waist. I will show off some of his robots when I get them done (a promise I made for Doc Fortunato’s robots over a year ago… lol). I have a lot more new stuff in the pipeline, so stay tuned. |
