I wanted a small but realistic looking display base for a couple of my figures, so I thought I'd try putting together a basic concrete wall. I'm really happy with how it came out and it took relatively little effort. Having an "open" display (rather than a building or room with enclosed walls) is really nice because it lets a lot of light in, and it sort of lets your imagination complete the scene.
Here are the steps: -made the wall with 2 layers of foamcore, shaping the rough edges with a carpet knife -covered everything with a thin layer of plaster of paris and newspaper (basically paper mache) -sprayed it all with grey spraypaint -bent some large paper clips for the rebar, painted them rust red, and stuck them into the wall -painted the ground -drybrushed everything with a dark gray and with light tan -boiled a block of gray sculpey, then broke apart with a screwdriver to create the debris -glued the debris in place with elmer's glue |

cool. If i had a lot of room I'd do some of these. If you want some more cool ideas dig around for the Black Goblin on the gamesworkshop web site lots of instructional how to's and what not for this exact thing.
still really good job.

Looks great! Very realistic. Wish I had the space to do something like that, but as it is, I drive the old lady up the wall just doing customs all the time so may be waiting till we get a bigger place. Again, VERY nice work!

That is super cool man! My only critique would be that the rebar shouldn't be so squiggily. Maybe make them mostly straight with one bend on them.
The wall looks like real concrete, that's awesome! |
