Newest update:
I disassembled the chopper. Added a primer. Unfortunately there is something going on with it. Not sure if I got it too thick or if the original paint is reacting badly to the primer...Anyhow, hopefully I can smooth it back out. More updates coming soon... |

It looks like the first paint app (Red) didnt cure properly. usually happens it to many layers are added to soon. I try to give each layer 24 hours to dry/cure before adding another. You might try using mineral spirits and a rag and smooth out the bad spots.

Well, here's a quick update. I tried sanding down the bubbled spots and redoing it but it doesn't really help.
I went ahead with the red paint again and it looked a hell of alot better the firt time around. I added the black but did a piss poor job of masking. I got some cleaning up to do. Not to mention some of the red on the back wings chipped off. I have to fix that. This is only my 2nd custom vehicle so I am still learning. |

Pretty cool design, Ruin!
Looks a bit like Autobot Blades Black is tough to work with. I usually paint the black parts first, then add the other layers on top and really get that tape in the grooves. Lookin' good though. Can't wait to see the finished product! |

Vinyl Dye! you can get it at any autozone, it actually dyes the plastic! Love it! I use it on all my big stuff, I originally was using it for Nerf mods because its so damn durable.

you know if you read the can, it says clean with vineger, an apply paint then re apply it soon after, if not then you have to wait 7 days i believe. the bubbles may be from the first coat not curing yet, an then you applied the primer. that could of reactivated the first coat. not to sure, cause i paint other things but toys, so not to sure.
and who ever said use white primer is wrong. you never use white for red, bottom line (unless you want to put on 10 coats, an the coating ends up 10 mills thick). it's either light grey or dark grey. if you want deep red use dark grey, you want light red use light grey.. when you look at a paint chip from benny moore, sherwin williams, or whatever paint you guys have out where you live, if it will have a p under it. that means primer. if it's a tp that means tinted primer. reds need tinted primer. and reds call for a primer tinted grey. certain reds call for certain tints of grey. hence me sayin lighter grey lighter red, darker grey darker red. |

If you want, you can strip all that paint off with rubbing alcohol & start over. It'll take some elbow grease tho.
You mentioned rain, which implies humidity. I'll bet you that's what messed the primer up. You want very low humidity when you use spraypaint. Read each can's directions thoroughly as not only are the instructions different from brand to brand, but different lines within the same brand often vary. Krylon Fusion is da bomb - just be sure to let it cure. I've asked at AutoZone about vinyl dye before & they had no idea what I was talking about. Couldn't find anything on the shelves calling itself vinyl dye either. Too bad - I really like the idea of it.
