Kinda new here so I don't know if this has been asked recently.
Has anyone built a custom PIT for their Joes or a custom Cobra base? If so I would love to see some pics! |

I haven't been here long, but from what I've seen, there have been a couple of attempts which have met with varying levels of success.
I don't believe I've seen a full-blown playset built with styrene plastic sheets, however. Any engineers/architects/legit model makers here? |

I plan on making one but don't have the time while I'm in school(architecture).

I've put together a design for a display shelf/PIT playset but it's nothing all that fancy. Simply a set of plastic shelves I will cut down and arrange to look something similar to the original PIT. There will be a one vehicle lift (that only works by hand) and lots of rooms filled with Marauder pieces. It's just a matter of finding the time to put it all together.
What's funny is my daughter is more excited about the prospect than I am. She considers this project more like a doll house for my GI Joes.

I have a similar idea in my head... Does anyone know where to find good 1:18th scale accessories?

Well, my studio is building a Terrordrome more closer to 1:18 scale than the original...
It's more the size of the one on Cobra Island in the cartoon. We originally wanted it to be truly colossal, but I reduced the design's size a bit to make sure I could place figs on the upper deck without using an grippy claw. The main body of the 'Drome is plywood, will have 5 lower decks, and an upper deck which will sport some absolutely colossal deck guns, when completed. (1:18 scale battleship turrets, anyone?) Several sections of the fiberglass outer shell will be removeable, both to allow access to the internal areas I will have detailed, as well as being swappable with battle damaged sections. As you can well guess, it will weigh a *lot* (it does). It's being built in my studio as a centerpiece for our front gallery, and will be on public display this fall. Alll I know is that I want to open the central hangar, and have 3 Firebats in it. Will hold like 1,200 of your favorite Snakes... We are also in the process of converting a USS Flagg into a full hull display set, by sculpting a lower hull to scale with the playset, and adding side hull sections where needed. When done the hull will be one piece, and rigid, with internal bracing. I have not yet decided if we are going to make her R/C or merely a static display. If its a static display, I will be designing removeable panels to simulate blast damage (Cobra Moray torpedo hits) Tho the notion of an R/C Flagg is really appealing. I will post a gallery here at Hisstank probably late spring, once we have the lower hull fiberglassed. Last edited by Viper_486; 02-26-2008 at 02:47 PM.. |
