Done a fantastic job with the head. It looks way better and gives me a bit more hope for this mold. Maybe I'll pick it up after all and try a repaint job.
Just great work sir.

As far as Marvel goes, the paint detail is awful! Their attempts at "washes" involve a paint and plastic that differ so greatly in tone that the final toy looks like it has a skin deisease. Hasbro's initial attempts with washes on Star Wars toys were just like this...over 10 years ago. I've got to wonder why they don't communicate between lines, because the Return of the Jedi wave I just picked up is mostly amazing. The subtle washes on the fantastic sculpts of Nien Nunb and Klaatu are eerily lifelike. I wish that level of detail was contagious.
Back to the custom though! If Marvel did have better detail then I wouldn't be treated to so many of miked's great works. Sure, he might tweak them if they were better, but I love seeing how his skill manages to overhaul crap into gold. I would keep the head as is, you took care of it. I don't find the nose awful, it adds a little character, and I'm too busy looking at the shading to notice it. Bowen quality as usual! |

Ha! Too true! There's nothing I like better than to come across a poor paint job in the store. Bringing it home and getting to work on it is like opening up a surprise birthday gift- you never know what your going to get! |

VERY well done. I think a lot of the passion that goes into washing, dry-brushing, and in general paint apps is lost on the mass production market. I dont think Hasbro will ever get it as good as the customizers, as they just dont care as much as we do. When you can turn out a hundred thousand or so in the time it takes a customizer to do one, quality becomes a backseat companion. That, and they sell these things at or around 10 bucks in the stores. If they where to put in the time effort and talent a customizer uses, then they would go for 30-50 bucks and never sell as the market is mainly for children. YOU however, seem to care a great deal about the charicter himself, and it REALLY shows in your work. Superb job of bringing this figure to the next level.

WOW! You don't know the Submariner? That's crazy! Anyway, thanks for the comments. The thinner brows are actually more on model for the character.

Coming from the master that's just gold. Actually, there is almost no eye detail at all in the sculpt which is why I was actually able to move his eyes apart just with paint (the eyes are way too close together in the original). I've never come across that before. This is not remotely the best sculpt I've ever come across to be sure.
