Weapon XIX,
You're blowing my mind today! Great work on this Blade figure. I must have had the MU Blade in my hands 2 or 3 times, only to put him back on the shelf! I hope you don't mind that I am going to completely rip off this idea and make one! Now, I have to make a list of all the figures I will have to buy this weekend. thanks, JLT |

Well it's been a little while since my last set of customs, but I'm back with a few and I'm gonna kick things off with my second favorite vampire slayer (yeah, I put Buffy ahead of Blade, big whoop, wanna fight about it
Blade is a character I really wanted in this scale, I thought he'd go great with Mezco's Hellboy taking on the hordes of Palisades' Army of Darkness. But Hasbro's MU Blade was lacking IMO - bulky Punisher body (my least favorite buck) with no new sculpted "jacketed" arms, hands that couldn't quite hold his weapons, and a big noggin, well I wasn't a fan. So I put together this Blade figure to take it's place in my collection. The design I had for Blade is a melding of more movie elements than comic ones stretched across the trilogy for a more original look. Parts - Head: ROC Ripcord Torso: ROC Shipwreck Legs: ROC Firefly from the Gunship Upper Arms: XMO Victor Creed Lower Arms: SW Comic Pack Cade Skywalker Glasses: Baroness Coat and Accessories: MU Blade More pics coming... |

Ah yes, the upper arm swap. This was a bit of a doozy - first boil and pop the arms from the Victor body. The pegs are totally different from Joe shoulders so they don't quite fit in the socket.
My first attempt to keep the arms in place - which actually works remarkably well - was start by taking the little rubber bands Hasbro has been supplying us with, and to wrap them multiple times around the peg. One band wrapped enough times will actually hold really well and allows the shoulder to remain fully functional. Though this worked really well, it always seemed like a temporary solution, so I cracked him open again, filled the gaps with some kneadatite aka "green stuff," lightly coated the peg with some vaseline, pressed it into the kneadatite, closed the torso, and then periodically moved the shoulder around during the curing process to ensure functionality. Someone (sorry can't remember who) did post a tutorial for swapping shoulder joints easily across the Hasbro lines, but because of the very particular shape of the Victor Creed shoulder joints I don't think it wouldn't have worked aesthetically. Thanks again for the kind words. And to JLT, TDK and anyone else who'd like to give it a shot, please feel free. It's flattering to see others wanting to use your ideas and recipes so I never mind if anyone wants to copy. I love it. |

Fantastic job. I like how those parts look. Much better than the MU one that was released.
