Does anyone know how to make a ghillie suit for a GIJOE?
Or where I could find one that would be in scale?

Some of the Valor Versus Venom action figures had soft goods ghillie suits, as I recall. They weren't that great.
One of the BATs did, for sure...and others as well. Last edited by Barefoot Jedi; 09-19-2009 at 05:10 PM.. |

After researchingsome pics I'd try just walking into a craft/fabric store and checking out all the fabrics and materials they have, picture in hand. I'd even recommend asking around with the employees, as oftentimes those places have employees with sewing hobbies outside of garments and sometimes places like that have workshops for baby doll clothes and other stuff.
Take a look at some pics of 12" Joes and the more detailed military figures that have that accessory to get an idea of how those were constructed. You wouldn't be nearly as cost and durability restrained as Hasbro is in scaling one down. I'm sorry that didn't help you directly, so here's how I would maybe go about trying it. I'd try to find some crummy, cheap, small girl's doll or figure at a dollor store or something that has clothes that would loosely fit on a Joe. I'd dye the fabric black, then cut out strips of very thin, almost sheer green fabric of similar, but different shades, with maybe some tan and brown. Lightweight fabric is important, since it will hang and fold to scale more realistically than a cut up t shirt would. Then I would superglue layers of strips by the ends onto the doll clothes, which is awesome because I can't sew. Outside of tiny doll clothes, a PIT Commando's vest provides pretty good coverage, and maybe enough fabric would dangle off of it to give a convincing appearance. |
