Hey guys, since the contest is over I figured I could go ahead and post the figure for some feedback or if anyone had any questions. Also, if anyone is interested I'm going to include his filecard and slightly extended backstory. I actually submitted the custom 3 times, and when I did I didn't always remember to let them know I'd updated the words as well as the pictures. Thanks to everyone involved with the contest!
Filecard: Name: Firefly (File updated post DEV)--MF Cobra’s tactical explosives and espionage expert-for-hire went missing shortly after the Dead End virus went worldwide. The only intel we have is from Lifeline (deceased). After the East Rutherford incident, a security search was conducted to try and piece together some of what happened. Amidst his personal files, we found a slip of paper. It read, “ER facility not compromised. Proceed with plan. Do not use my name.” It was signed with the letter “X,” crudely shaped into the form of an insect. We’ve seen the symbol before, at various disaster sites or on paper trails we found. Always after the fact. We still don’t know what exactly happened there, but if this guy was involved, there’ll be hell to pay. -SSG. Wayne R. Sneeden Firefly Backstory: Taken from the files of GI Joe. Designated File: "Dead End" Recon Log. As observed by Sergeant Nicky Lee. “On orders, I was sent into downtown Springfield on a routine mission looking for whatever I could find in terms of food for the crew. Most of anything left now is rotted or infected, so my trips don't yield much. But there was some. A few bags of chips, two (2) can goods that hadn't been popped, and a twinkie. The chips I had to mash down to fit into my ruck, the others I stashed in pockets. As I started back to temporary HQ I noticed some movement about a hundred yards away. I couldn't hear it from that distance, but I swear I could smell it. It looked like a "molasses" at first, but it moved too casually. There wasn't much left of the buildings since the higher-ups leveled the place, but I was able to sneak around some larger pieces of foundation to see what was happening. The closer I got, the more I could smell it. I thought it might be a new type, the smell was so bad. I'd never seen anything like this; somewhere between a molasses and a speedy. As I drew my pistol it raised its head. I'll be damned if it wasn't the man we'd looked for for over a year after the outbreak. Thirty yards away from me stood Firefly. I thought he might have spotted me, but I ducked back down and he moved on. I followed him deeper into the city. Lo and behold, at the center of downtown Springfield stood an old shipping warehouse. I couldn't make out the letters on the side, it was something like 'Acme' or ‘Arlco’ or something. I followed on, deep inside the warehouse, until he walked off behind a row of crates. As I looked around, I… I was just horrified. All manner of traps-- spikes, ropes, mines, you name it, he had it lining this place. There was a—what do you call it—a pendulum hanging from the roof and locked into one side of the building. I nearly lost my lunch as the rotting pieces of flesh dripped from the sharp metal. Then I realized what this was. The motherf**ker made a funhouse for himself. It looked like he'd open the bay doors, let a few in, and just watch them as they got hacked up, blown up, destroyed however possible. I couldn't stand it anymore so I turned to leave. When I turned about face, I was chest to chest with the man himself. His eyes were... wrong. He looked me over for a real long time, and then—he, I dunno, he smelled me. I mean, not like caught a whiff or something. He put his nose an inch away from my face and sucked in hard and deep, like he was trying to figure out what I was. Like a dog or something. I could see his nostrils flaring under his mask for a minute. But then his gaze softened a bit and the knife I didn’t see at my belly lowered. This close, the scent of him was so strong. I think it was… I dunno; it doesn’t matter. He started to turn, but he stopped. He said only one thing. ‘If you cook the flesh first, you won't turn...’ Then he just walked away. He might as well have disappeared for all I know, he was just gone. I came home immediately and I'm not f**kin' going back out there. At least when I'm here I know where THEY are. Out there… he could be anywhere.” End log.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I've seen it in person. He did a top-notch job on the camo pattern. And personally, I think the backstory is frakkin amazing. I love the idea of Firefly toying with zombies and blowing them up just for kicks.
Congrats, dude, for getting silver. |
