I picked up some red Krylon (I think it was Krylon) "stained glass" spray paint that tints glass and clear plastic. I want to repaint the new ROC Firebat as a mini-Night Raven, with bright orange-red vents and a clear red cockpit.
To make sure it would work, I sprayed the cockpit of my Skystorm Chopper (which has already been gutted so I could use the seats for my Sigma 6 Dragonhawk, plus I used the Skystorm to test my chrome paint). It was OUTRAGEOUSLY cool. I decided to paint the rest of it black, the missiles bright red, and the rotors gold, to make a cool upgrade of the IG AGP. Then I sprayed the cockpit of my True Heroes F-22, which I was already using as a modern era Raptor Night Raven anyway. AMAZING. THEN I painted the cockpit of my Night Specter, the sky sharc repaint that was done in dark gray. Now THAT looks amazing. This stuff is just so cool I am totally addicted. I want to get other colors and start scouring ebay or yard sales for old Joe toys with clear cockpits so I can come up with all sorts of funky repaints. This is even cooler than the chrome technique. SECONDED!
This technique/paint may cause me to rethink using tinted-Future floor finish when I tint clear plastic parts.

Here are the pics, to prove that it did in fact happen. A bunch of repaints, including the stained glass stuff.
The LAV is a work in progress, I need to add some black highlights, including fixing the hubcaps. The Stiletto also isn't finished, as I need to attach the engine thruster things and the cover for the cockpit hinge. I'm really, really, really, really, really, really happy with the Skystorm. Really. I always felt the design on that vehicle was cool, though I couldn't figure out why it seemed bland. It was the colors. It's a shame that it's not useable, the cockpit seat is from the out-of-scale Dragonhawk.... LOVE that Skystorm now. Destro's personal fighter, an upgrade to the Despoiler and the AGP all in one. dwarvenforge.com / Another set of Joe customs for the SF fans out there... |
