While I do like the Night Force 2-pack with Night Force Lt Falcon and Quarrel, I also really do enjoy the original Action Force version of Quarrel and wanted a figure that more closely resembles a version as if it came out in the Retro line.
The biggest modification was to replace the upper torso from the Shooter version sporting the body armor/harness and replace it with Retro Scarlett's upper torso. Matching the green of Quarrel's jumper was the hard part. Correction, the hardest part was swapping the butterfly cups between upper torsos. Getting the cups out of the old torso was hard, but getting them back in the new torso was near impossible. Took some shaving and a lot of heat, but they eventually went back in. My first mix of green was way, way too dark. I put on 3 coats of that to cover the black primer, but was unhappy with the results. My top 3 coats of green was a more simple match of Vallejo Refractive Green (x2 drops) plus Lemon Yellow (about x1 drop +/-). I think the results are pretty close to the factory arms. Other little changes include adding some red to the right thigh gizmo/bomb/thing to get more red on Quarrel. Better matches the original figure. I also notice the 1982 Scarlett body had more of a pointy dagger than a wide hunting knife on the left thigh. Used one of my $3.99 Ollie Zarana extra figures to donate the dagger with a more narrow blade. Wanted a more compact crossbow for someone who needs to use it while riding a motorcycle. Went with the Movie Scarlett crossbow and added a bit of silver and red to make it stand out. Last edited by SquishyOH; 10-28-2024 at 01:15 PM.. |

That looks really nice. I wouldn't have minded if Hasbro did her like this too.

reassembling those shoulders is respectable enough on its own, but in addition you did a job matching that paint!

I think I prefer yours over what we got. Like others have said, you matched the paint really well and the paint apps look great. Thumbs up!

Su-weet! That is a fine looking Retro Quarrel figure you have come up with! I would have stuck with the straight repaint of the Night-Force body, but you upped the ante, using the Retro Scarlet's upper torso, making your figure truer to the original. Kudos on your superior efforts!

Thank you all for the kind comments. I am not much of a painter and do not air-brush, so I was pretty happy with the color match on Quarrel. And that I thinned the paint enough that it does not look like a 5 year old painted this.
Managing to swap the butterfly shoulders was a chore. But it is possible if you do not mind burning your fingers. |

That's cool. Honestly, the thing I didn't like the most about Quarrel was having her chest covered up. If it hadn't been for that I would have been very happy with her. I'd considered buying an extra Scarlett and doing something like this. Thanks for showing what it looks like.
I hope they do some other AF UK figures. |
