I had the Rattler as a kid in the 80?s and had many fun hours playing with it. I am a scale model builder, so I got the idea to make a rattler in 1:72 scale, which is the most common model airplane scale. I used an A-10 kit and made the modifications: putting the engines on the wings, making an extra engine in the tail, moving the landing gear, making the gunner?s turret, etc. The plane is displayed with some cobra ground crew and Wild Weasel. This build was a fun departure from my usual, so I am going to make some other cobra planes in this scale in the future.

Man this is fantastic! I've not noticed many people posting their model work here. Hope to see more if it's like this. My maths don't always math so well, how big (or small) is this? If my calculations are right the figurines would be about an inch standing, and the wingspan on the Rattler would be about 9.5-10 inches across the wings...Great work on the wings and rear engine as well at the turret. Looking forward to your next post.

BatesDragon,
Thanks for the encouragement. Your math is right regarding the sizes. I?ve attached a picture of a penny by Wild Weasel for comparison. I?ve been working on the Cobra Raven today, and hope to post more about that one soon. |

This isn't just a model, it's a story. So much going on that one can't just glance at the photos.
Fantastic work. |
