I've always felt Recondo deserved a vehicle for cruising the Jungles, Savannahs, the Outback, or any other remote location hes currently stationed in and when I found an Adventure force jeep on clearance with a tent and observation deck on top I had to get it for him.
Its an Adventure Force Jeep Overlandder or on the website the "Adventure Force Jeep Overlander Play Vehicle, Roof Tent, Posable Figure, Lights & Sound, Red" and is a Walmart exclusive and is currently on clearance at Walmarts for $4.50 to $8.50. The vehicle itself is 1:18th but it will not fit 3.75" and 25th/ME Joes out of the package. Details on the customization process below the pics: The jeep was dissembled and the foot wells had to be cut out to fit a 1:18th figure because, as seen in the retail picture in the attachments, the jeep came with a 1:18th figure with half normal sized legs. Stickers were removed from the jeep and some were saved for reapplication later. The jeep was spray painted military green and then weathered with a apple barrel black paint mixed with alcohol wash. When the wash was dry excess wash was removed with an alcohol wipe to provide the desired weathered and black washed effect. I gutted the annoying sound effect electronics while the jeep was taken apart and removed the button for them. To cover the hole left by the button I used a scrap from some black pvc dollar tree place-mat to make it look like a black canvas curtain was covering an opening. The Jeep was missing a snorkel which is one of the most important parts of an offroad adventure jeep so I made one from bits of black plastic clothes hanger. I cut the clothes hanger into the shapes I wanted and used a dremel to sand and sculpt the pieces to fit together. The pieces had there centers drilled out and were pegged together with some left over mode kit sprue before being super glued into their final formation. To attach the snorkel to the jeep two holes were drilled into the front left side of the snorkel, 1/8th of an inch apart, and two 1/2" long sprue pegs were glued into the holes drilled into the snorkel. Two holes were then drilled in the side of the jeep above the fender in the desired position 1/8th of an inch apart and the pegs of the snorkel were slotted in but not glued in place. The long pegs are enough to hold the snorkel securely in place with nothing but friction. Sadly one part of the custom stumped me and I could not make the camper top the military green color I wanted to match the Jeep. The Tan parts of the Jeep are the dreaded unpaintable plastic, like found on parts of Hasbro's transformers, that is the bane of Transformers customizers. Spray paint, most plastic primers, and most hobby paints will not bond to the plastic. Nothing I had in my arsenal could get any paint or even marker to stick to it. Even primer + spraypaint + modpodge coating failed to keep paint on the tan parts. Everything flaked or peeled off with the slightest touch. So for now the Camper top will remain tan and not the military green I wanted. I may revisit this in the future if I can find a paint or dye that costs less than what I paid for the vehicle that will bind to it. The jeep was finished off with stickers leftover from GI Joe vehicles and model kits. Last edited by sisco; 03-08-2024 at 02:54 AM.. |

Nice conversion/paint job! Looks like it would make a great Adventure Team vehicle as well!
