Wanted to make some military Seabees style construction vehicles for my Joe display. Found an adventure force Bobcat at Walmart for $9.96, the Bobcat is actually used by the various US Military divisions for construction so it was a perfect vehicle, so I went about converting it for GI Joe use. It fits 3.75 and 4 inch ME style figures with no conversion needed.
Customization consisted of taking the vehicle completely apart to repaint it in Army Green. The vehicle is only held together with screws and everything was easily taken apart with a philips screwdriver, you can even remove the wheel hubs from the tires. Once it was disassembled I painted all the white and orange with Rustoleum Army Green camo spray paint. When that was dry and the vehicle was reassembled and I applied a buffing of black wash. To finish it off I applied left over GI Joe and Zoids stickers. I also added a hole at the bottom of the back of the Bobcat so a detachable tow hook can be added as needed. For the driver I used a GI Joe Retro Stalker, a Hammond Collection Arnold head, and a repainted construction helmet from the figure included with the Bobcat (the helmet fits snugly and needed no modifications). More pictures here: the hole at the bottom is for a removable tow hook. Last edited by sisco; 01-14-2024 at 02:54 AM.. |

For anyone that wants to pick one up they are currently in stock in Walmart's all over the US for $9.97.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Adventure...2596644703?fro Walmart also carries the Camo spray paint for $5.98. Remove all the stickers before painting they peel off super easy and leave no residue. Wash the Bobcat with dish soap and water to remove any factory mold release left on it before spray painting. Put any stickers you want to keep on something nonsticky till after repaint. You may also want to do a light sanding of the pieces before painting, I did not and if I had to do it over I would hit up the moving parts of the lift mechanism with a light sanding as those did have some paint scratch off. For the black wash I just use a tablespoon of 70% rubbing alcohol, 1 drop of dish detergent (breaks the surface tension), and 3 drops of cheap black acrylic paint mixed together. After the camo spray paint cured for a day I painted the homemade blackwash heavily on the Bobcat. It dries fast because of the alcohol, don't worry if its too dark the next step will take care of that. When the wash has dried take quetips, dip the tips in water and run over the blackwashed parts, like your buffing a car. It will remove excess wash, leave a lot of black in the cracks and around details and give the whole piece a nice weathered look. Last edited by sisco; 01-13-2024 at 03:03 PM.. |

Awesome job with the paint! Picked up one of these a couple months back, but haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet. Thought about making some clamp on style forks for the bucket to move pallets around.

Digging the make-over on this Bobcat! That paint job is very nice, with the weathering being just right! Great thinking on re-purposing this vehicle!
