So, I finally had time to sit down and do a post about another upgraded Joe. This one is another head swap and arm surgery job, although I got to experiment a little bit with synthetic dyes. I got the head off of a 50A Falcon figure since I thought it looked like a much better match for Flint, and I dyed the beret black. I also tried dying Flint's SPAS-12 black but even after boiling it in the dye solution for about 10 minutes, it only shifted to dark military green so I decided to just put a black wash over it and call it a day.
If I was gonna do this again and wanted to save a few steps, rather than painting up the head to match the new Marauder arms I would probably just opt to repaint the Marauder arms to match the head because I did run into a little bit of trouble regarding paint chipping from the hat. The fix I went with was to use a burner brush and brush a very thin layer of thin CA glue over the face to protect the paint, and then give it a top coat of matte varnish. The varnish still likes to chip off around the hat line but it's not really noticeable unless you look for it. I also recommend that if you are going to use dye on wearable pieces, give them a long soak in 99% iso alcohol and a good rub down with a cloth or cotton to minimize the possibility of the dye leaking and having an interaction with any varnish you might be using. For that reason, painting the outside of a hat is probably going to be better for most people than using dye in most cases. The one last trick in this whole process was that 50A Falcon has a different peg well in his head than a 25A figure. I tried popping the head on and it was way too low and fit too loosely, so I did my trick of putting a thin layer of super lube on the peg and some hot glue inside the head. Aside from the head upgrade, the thing I think makes me the most happy about this upgrade is that he finally has his brown gloves like in the cartoon. The recipe: Head and beret: 50th Anniversary Falcon Arms: Marauder light skin bare forearms with brown rolled up sleeves Hands: Marauder brown gloved hands Everything else: 25th Anniversary Flint |

Nice figure! Much better than the 25th version that Hasbro gave us...
