So, I've gotten another GI Joe / Marauder custom finished today. I really wanted to add Shooter to my collection but the official figure was out of my price range, and a lot of people weren't particularly happy with her ability (or lack thereof) to shoulder her sniper rifle. Rather than do a straight 1:1 copy using Marauder parts, I put some thought into the context for the original figure. She came in a night-ops themed three pack with two other Joes and they were all dressed in black, so I got thinking about what she might wear on a mission in a more rural or wooded location, where she has to hide in the natural foliage to conceal her position.
I decided to give her a black T-shirt in reference to the official figure, along with camouflage pants. In the spirit of how official GI Joe figures often come with some kind of unique accessory to make them stand out, I created a softgoods poncho for her out of mesh, which gives her an extra stealthy look. Like the official figure she has a modular sniper-rifle that can be disassembled, albeit without an attach? case to put it in. The recipe: Head: Marauder "Athena" Dark Skin Tone with Black Short Hair Chest: Marauder Female Valkyries T-Shirt: Black Version with Dark Skin Tone Legs:Marauder Female Legs: Olive Green Camo, Ammo Pouch: Double Magazine GREEN & Black Version, and Fighting Knife & Sheath: Large Size Green Version Boots: Rise of Cobra Snake Eyes Chest rig webbing: 25th Anniversary Stalker Pistol: Marauder DELTA Semi-Automatic Pistol Sniper rifle: M200 Sniper Rifle with Scope, Silencer & Bipod Poncho: Army green grill mesh / speaker fabric As with my Cover Girl custom, doing leg surgery to put some different boots on a Marauder base figure really helped bring Shooter's height more in line with a female GI Joe, since female Marauder figures are kind of tall, and it meant I didn't have to think about the accessory peg holes at all. Plus, I think the black boots with the camo pants looks good with this build. Aside from that, the only other tricky part was cutting out the poncho. My first attempt I made the hole in the middle too big, but I bought a yard of the stuff so I could afford to make a mistake on the first go. Beyond that and the chest rig she's all Marauder parts. This is an easy build that I think anyone can do. |

Well done. Using parts from other Joes lends a sense of familiarity that helps her fit in. I like how excited collectors are becoming for this character.

She looks great! I love how versatile Marauder Task Force figures/parts are, and you can make a multitude of different characters with them! Plus, the changing of the boots is inspired work, which shows that this wasn't just a simple figure build, but had some custom work put into it. I especially like that you went the extra mile to show the parts used in that last photo, making it an easier recipe for others to follow, if they so choose. Kudos!

That's a fantastic looking Shooter custom!! Such a creative solution to make the soft goods poncho for her which naturally add volumes of awesomeness to the figure. I also like that you added the boots after that minor surgery, as it adds more of a military look. Great work!
