The latest pulp custom was inspired by Axon's incredible John Carter and Dejah Thoris figures. I wanted to do my own version, but base it off the Marvel Comics version of Carter, which proved to be a challenge, but a fun one in terms of finding the right pieces.
Aside from the head, everything is Boss Fight pieces. The upper body and arms are from a second Tarzan figure I purchased. The waist piece, legs and feet were going to be from that same Tarzan figure, but it uses the new legs and the ankle connecting to the feet is different. Thankfully I had some other blank legs in different colors that I primed and painted. The boot pieces are from a Skeleton set. I was going to wait for the Singh Pirates figures to come out because they have the perfect Marvel style pirate boots, but we don't know when those are going to come out, so I got impatient. The belt with the gun and sword are from the comic Flash Gordon Hero H.A.C.K.S. and the blue sash is from a Boss Fight Knight I found loose on Ebay. The head is an AVACS Lab solo head and I had to use green stuff to make the headband. I got this magnifying glass and tried to paint it as close as possible. I think the eyes are a little bugged out, but we'll pretend he's being intense. And finally, the base is a standard Hero H.A.C.K.S stand, but painted in (appropriately) Mars Red paint. I'm happy with how it came out. That's another one off the bucket list! Last edited by superby1; 11-04-2022 at 08:45 PM.. |

This is great! I also loved Ax's figures! I've contemplated doing a John Carter series with Boss Fight in the past, and this is another great effort! Parts choices/paint look amazing & you really captured the spirit/look of the comic!

The headband and the little shoulder parts on the strap are green stuff and let me tell you, I am soooo not great with green stuff, especially with something this small. I have so much respect for the people who can use it and make it look seameless. |

Yeah, I like this interpretation a lot. Think I'm going to update mine with that belt. It's a nice and fitting touch

Thank you so much! Yea, it seems like Boss Fight is the ideal line to do a John Carter custom. He's got so many variations of looks and Boss Fight seems to have parts that will accommodate a lot of them. I went with the Marvel style because that's the look I know the best thanks to my aunt giving me a lot of her comics from when she was buying them in the seventies. She had a few John Carter comics.

I have so much respect for the people who can use it and make it look seameless. LOL! Thanks boss! I have something else in the works coming up that takes some small influence/or the things that I took from are influenced by John Carter of Mars, but that does not mean I may not revisit to make a true homage of him & Dejah someday. ;-) |

Like the background story and I agree with you on the green stuff, it definitely requires some good sculpting skills! Again kudos!!

I wonder if anyone has any Tars Tarkas heads.... I'm still on the lookout for possible Green Hornet and Kato heads. My biggest fear is I'll have to sculpt them and they have VERY specific masks. I'm still trying to figure out how Flint Rocks did that AMAZING Lone Ranger mask sculpt. |

I tell you, that Flash Gordon belt was a godsend! The most difficult piece to acquire? That damn knight belt/sash thing! Boss Fight Knights are expensive. Thankfully I found a loose knight with a bunch of parts I can use on future stuff.
