Don't know how I missed this before. Say to get that extra size and nice work on the sculpting to get it just right. There's probably easier paths you could have taken, but the extra effort always pays off
Also, where the eff is Conan? I'm tired of pulp lineups that fail to include him, and I do believe we've had this discussion before?

Conan totally counts as a pulp character. That would be interesting to do! Lord knows there's a lot of parts and accessories that would accommodate it. Plus, I would LOVE to see what Flint could do with a Conan custom!
I tried to sculpt the Green Hornet's mask today and oh what a mistake that was! I'll give it another shot soon, but I'm still hoping and praying someone has a custom head cast. If not, my only other option is buying some 1:18 non poseable Green Hornet custom resin figures I saw on eBay and figuring out how to cut off that head and dremel in a neck hole if I can get it to work. |

I'm just busting balls.
Arnie Conan would be an 80s movie character and not really the pulp version of yore. I do find it interesting the lack of general Conan knowledge by people in industries that I feel like should know. I'm not talking about you, Flint, as you're general interests lie elsewhere. I feel like I read about or talk to a good bit of writers/readers who swear by Tolkien, but are wholly unaware that Conan was a literary character (most peoples' knowledge starts at the Marvel Comics or the Arnie movie, if they have any specific knowledge, at all) even though he predates LOTR by a fair margin, and Robert E. Howard is considered the father of Sword and Sorcery unanimously, and the Godfather of modern Fantasy by many. So, one would think Tolkien had certainly read Howard's work, or at least had some familiarity with it (this is alternately refuted and confirmed, depending on who you ask) Not that that is either here nor there. I just often lament the trajectory of both Howard himself and Conan if he had managed to live and write as long as he should have.

What are the major differences in the story of Conan from the movies vs pulp and how did his general look change. I imagine once the movies got big that his Marvel appearance was heavily influenced by the movie look.

Absolutely no offense taken. I defer to you on all things Conan as truly my knowledge is from the movies and then a few times I ran across him in Marvel.
What are the major differences in the story of Conan from the movies vs pulp and how did his general look change. I imagine once the movies got big that his Marvel appearance was heavily influenced by the movie look. As much as I love the movie, I think what's lost in a lot of the multimedia is the "stranger in a strange land" component. The core of Conan's character is that he wants to see what's beyond Cimmeria and wanders into the "civilized" world. Despite his prowess as a warrior, Conan is not portrayed as an intellectually limited brute, which is probably his most common media representation. Arnie's movie and Momoa's, as well, really harped on this revenge driven Conan, which is made dumber by the fact that most of the "civilized" world stayed away from Cimmeria because it was largely considered unconquerable (yet we have two movies where the Cimmerians are whole-sale slaughtered in 15 minutes). A lot of Conan stories play more like James Bond, where he finds himself in a situation, not generally of his own making, and is pulled into events by others or is an interloper that must be accounted for along the way. In many cases, Conan is not necessarily driving the plot of the story, but heavily influences its outcome, if that makes sense. Not exclusively, but commonly. I actually don't think either movie does a bad job of capturing the personality of Conan, but it's largely overshadowed by his revenge driven brooding. Howard's Conan was a man of "gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth", so I guess its in part to a given reader to decide what is and what isn't Conan-like. A much more knowledgeable Howardian has noted about the movies that many of Conan's actions, depending on your interpretation, may be perceived to be nothing like Conan, or very much like him. Now, the very low budget show, Conan the Adventurer, which was produced after the success of Hercules and Xena, but somehow with even less production value, is actually a nice representation of the character, despite Ralf Moeller's limited acting chops, at least at the time, and if you can ignore the fact that the budget didn't allow for even some black hair dye (Moeller had the blue eyes already). But it also fails to properly represent Cimmeria. I know you don't care, but since you gave me a whole, I ran through it. But a bump is a bump.

Fascinating AxonRey. And now I realize I have at least as much to catch up on with the original Conan character as I do with your astounding work, Flint Rocks. You are almost as prolific as Robert E Howard so it seems, Flint. Nice sculpting brother! Bumptitibump!
