I know I’m not the only one who wasn’t satisfied with the design of the first couple of waves of Classified figures. The video game look with all of the shiny colors was definitely not for me; someone who started collecting the figures when I was a middle school kid in the 80s.
So I went ahead and customized my Duke version 2 repaint to get him even closer to the Duke figure that I had in the 80s. That said, I also wanted it to be more in line with the times. I did some wear and tear dry brush paint effects, modified the 2-tone dark green shoulder panels to lean closer to the original single color shirt, and applied a dark wash to the plasticky bright green bandolier and belt. I was satisfied at first, but then I discovered the Valaverse Action Force stuff and put that on the figure. If this is a modern, special forces military unit, shouldn’t the military personnel who are part of it be outfitted with modern gear? So what do you think? Do you prefer a modern interpretation that is closer to the 80s original, or a version that lives more within the reality or modern warfare? I voted for the geared up version, but I like my figures to have gear they can use sometimes, and take off other times. Otherwise, why not just have helmets and vests molded on? But I do like the 80’s inspired version, because that feels the most like Duke.

But as you said, the accessory vest can come on and off very easily, so I can just switch it up from time to time. Switching the belt and thigh holster take a little more effort, though. |

Duke also needs some diagonals on his chest to be “Duke.” Geared up is nice, but missing that. Just like Beachhead needs the grey on his chest. Without these elements, the character is missing their core.

The geared up one is what I voted for. I love the look of it.
