Here is Sunbow's Admiral Ledger, substantially thinner than in the cartoon. I never understood why he existed in the Sunbow world and Keel Haul (Admiral Colby) didn't.
I wanted to have Ledger and Colby exist together and originally intended this Ledger to be the Executive Officer on the Flagg, serving under Admiral Colby. But I asked around to see what was possible, in terms of rank and structure within the Navy. And it's easier to refer to this custom as "Admiral Ledger" to acknowledge the source material. I asked a friend and my brother (both served in the Navy), and they explained several scenarios in which an aircraft carrier could theoretically have two admirals on it. I won't pretend I understood everything that I was told, so feel free to add more information if you were in the Navy. Last edited by Clockwise; 07-15-2022 at 09:03 AM.. |

Really cool build for Admiral Ledger! Always fun to see the unique parts you choose in their pre-painted form and then the finished product, really shows off the vision because I am always shocked at how different the before and after shots are,
Super clean paint job and that is a really cool head that you chose for him!

Thanks for the kind words.
The head is a Benton Quest grafted onto a NS Alpine neck and smoothed out. The JQ line is a trove of customizable parts, though they take some adapting. I always enjoy making the NS parts work, too. That usually includes lengthening the midriff area. |

That looks great. Out of curiosity, what did you learn that caused you not to conceive of the character as the XO? I'm intrigued. I guess I assumed every Navy ship had a CO and XO.

Thanks!
I was hoping some sailors would pop in this thread to confirm what I think is correct. If I got it right, every ship does have a captain and a XO. However, the captain’s rank isn’t necessarily “captain”. On an aircraft carrier, it could be an admiral. Likewise, every fleet has an admiral, who is independent of the ship captains. That admiral gets to pick which ship in that fleet is his/her flagship. If the fleet admiral picked an aircraft carrier captained by another admiral, then you could have two on one ship. From what I could additionally read, fleet admirals generally don’t pick aircraft carriers as their flagships because they tend to be very loud compared to other ships. Keep in mind, I could be wrong on all of this. |
