Thanks everyone! I'll answer the questions about the gloves and zippers in detail sometime soon...
Ha ha, touche! Never saw her in the wild either. Well I did change a few things for the better and maybe that's why the recognition wasn't instant. Quote:
Exactly! It took a little work to tone down. Many 1:18 heads look better with more precise and natural paint apps, in my opinion. |

This miles beyond anything I could take credit for. It is fine work. You've also probably upped the bidding price on the Retro Scarlett by by 50%...
I'm keenly interested in a full breakdown of the work when you get the chance (before you forget it all). |

I wish they'd rerelease this figure. I was able to get one though a trade but I'd buy a bunch if I could ever find them. Still want to know exactly what you did here as I really dig the final results.

I truly appreciate the feedback, gang. This was fun, challenging and rewarding to make.
After retro figures were announced and the dream of possible O-Ring was broadsided by an O-mouth Duke reality, I thought plenty about what retro figures should be. And what should retro Scarlett be? 1982 haircut? No. Ponytail is the way to go. The new head sculpt was the new figure’s best feature after all. Keep the impractical battle leotard? Yes, definitely! And no rendition of Scarlett has ever had zippers like the original 1982 card art, so I had to try and figure that out. Like others, I was bothered by the short hunched over neck and shoulders, short gloves, bare-plastic hair, overdone paint applications on the face and underdone paint applications almost everywhere else. I planned to add more details that I ultimately abandoned, like sculpting the shoulder pad, adding pouches to the inner side of the boots. removing the sculpted belt to make room for a removable one, and even adding a slingshot to the back pocket, (I mean why not!?- it would be funny!) Although I didn’t follow through on all these ideas, this custom feels done now. Head: Painted the hair with subtle highlights and lowlights; Trimmed the inner eyebrow plastic / paint and touched it up; tried to remove the too-dark lipstick then gave up, and chose to paint a lighter lip shade over the top. Extended the neck. Torso and shoulder sculpting: I used HissHissFangFang’s post for inspiration. Considering a figure’s silhouette was an exciting idea I had never considered. Ultimately I think I could’ve followed HHFF’s lead a little more along the torso sides, now that I look back on his again, but my result is still a lot less frumpy that the original. Carving down the shoulders alone made the neck look a little longer. Zippers: I cut out thin grooves into the torso into which I transplanted zipper segments from MTF Val thighs. I delayed a long time due to the risk of ruining this expensive figure but it was a good challenge. Other torso detail: added the grenade from 25th webgear and painted it; painted the belt to stand out a little less. Legs: added a cast of the silver explosive on her right thigh; Painted the leg straps and left thigh pouches a darker shade of grey; painted the boot pouches a darker tan to tie them in to tie them in visually with the belt. Gloves: Most of the interest seems to be the gloves. They are from SW Paige Tico, carefully dremeled out and sanded down to stretch over retro Scarlett’s arms; throwing stars and pistol were cast in green stuff and were added. I’ll have to try to remember what paint I used on the gloves but I mixed tan with touches of white and yellow (mixed brands I had on hand) to match the retro gloves, which were themselves trimmed at the cuff and sanded to more smoothly meet the removable Paige Tico pieces. Good guesses, though 46Zone There would be more retro Scarlett customs if she weren’t so expensive, but I have enjoyed everyone else’s takes and tweaks and even simple bashes that didn’t get their own thread, including 46Zone, Nighthawk, Zparticuz, HHFF, Playful (did I miss anyone?) and … hopefully soon - JLW515 (nudge nudge). My crazy ideas aren’t always easy to recommend to others so hopefully more ideas can come along too. |

And now we know!
That's a lot of work. I haven't looked at my Scarlett in a while so I didn't realize you made any changes to it, but it looks even better now. I just wish we could get more of them.

Oh yes, I also sanded off the fly. Why, oh why, did I sand off the fly? While I can imagine a leotard for a man benefitting from a zippered fly, it makes no sense on a woman’s leotard (but please don’t think about that too hard guys)

ARBCO Avenue,
Thanks for the rundown on your custom. If you mixed the paints to get that color for the gloves, then you nailed it spot on! Man, I was really hoping that you were gonna just say that Brand X Color X was the paint you used. That was going to make painting Retro Scarlett a lot easier, but I guess I'll be mixing paint. LOL! I definitely feel that *nudge, nudge.* My bag of OG13 customs sits in the floor next to my desk in my study as a reminder to get busy taking photos. Your custom Scarlett is definitely inspiration to get off my rear and get busy working on customs. Great stuff!! Jason |

Nice going through the breakdown of your meticulous work on this one. Kudos for this exceptional execution. It'd have been awesome to see a side-by-side comparison but then again having multiples of retro Scarlett is truly a luxury these days.

Wow...that was definitely way more modification than I would do. It does look really nice and I totally agree on the zipper. That's one of the first things I noticed and I was like...Wow! That's so detailed.
