I started another thread showing all the pictures from the beginning. Changed the main design a few times but happy where it ended up. I'm enjoying the design and build. Open to ideas as well. Something that I should include? Custom things to buy and add...anything. Thanks for the great comments and ideas so far. Yo Joe!

Sorry, I can't add anymore pictures to this thread. Please watch for more under this title. Also if your interested, I added a post to the work in progress category. This one shows the project from the beginning. There's also an album of photos in my profile.

Awesome! I can "hear" the enjoyment from your post as well as see and imagine it from your pics. What a great project to do! I'm glad you shared it so others can experience it in a small way as well

So much coolness! You put a well deck in it! Brilliant. I have always dreamed of making a WASP class ship for the joes. More a marine amphibious assault ship than a carrier. You've sort of done that here. You've added so much play value in so many places. Fantastic work. Design, engineering and craft all coming together. It is rare to see, but inspiring when it happens.

Tried to delete some photos and add updated photos but can't get any to upload. Please enjoy the photos in the work in progress thread and I'll figure it out.

I have been a Carpenter for over fifteen years and this beats the hell outta anything I ever built for my two boys lol. This is fantastic! If I were still a kid and had the choice of the real thing or this I'd take this one in a heartbeat. You sir are dad of the year!

I'm designing doors for the rear of the ship. (See pics) They will swing open like cabinet doors to let the whale launch. Hoping it gives a realistic look of a Nimtz class carrier. Also provides a boat landing for more play value. If I move the whale to one side I can fit two or three devil fish boats next to it. Might add a landing platform inside for that. Broke my darn sander. Bought new one today. Thinking spray paint to start. Also going to add doors to the flight deck for access to below. That way you can access the whole ship to continue the play instead of playing above or below when you take the whole top off like I have it designed now. Glad it's warming up here in MN then I can spray paint outside.
That's all for now, G I Dad |
