It's taken some time and a lot of patience, but I'm happy to say I have my first custom complete. I wanted to take a character from a story I wrote (a supporting character, actually) and try to make a figure out of him. It took a while as one of the Angelforge Torso's didn't go as planned and I had to go with my back up, but after some time and patience, I finally got my first custom done.
This is Bolo Hale. Most of this is MTF parts (white t-shirt torso, clenched fist and Blue German Soldier pants for that biker look) One of the hands is a Vitruvian Hacks grabby hand, the vest is a Mutt Williams vest from Indiana Jones and the head is an Angelforge custom. The weapon is a MTF Machete. I did a miniature of the character through Heroforge. That's what I used to find parts online. The eyes ended up a happy accident. Painting eyes is difficult. One eye went off to the side and without realizing it, I did the same with the other eye. It ended up in a "I wish you would" expression and I ended up loving it. It's not neat by any stretch of the imagination but I feel it gives it character. And the little black bands around the MTF wrists worked as the bottom of his fingercut gloves, which I tried painting. I'm not sure if I should use a topcoat sealer or not. I don't plan on moving him around much. Maybe I'll do another pass on some paint spots, but yea, this it. A big thanks to everyone on these forums for all their help and advice. I can't wait to turn another character into a custom figure. Last edited by superby1; 04-19-2021 at 09:08 PM.. |

Also, please forgive the quality of the photos. I'm still learning.

Thank you, everyone! You all flatter me! I was looking for a figure with fingerless gloves that had a gripping hand, but those were surprisingly hard to come by. I was going to try and get rid of the black wristband on the MTF figure, but I realized it might work as part of the gloves, so I decided to paint the MTF and Bossfight hands into the gloves, adding some of the paint I used for the skin to make the knuckle holes and the square at the back of the hand. Much like the eyes, it was random, but it worked for me.
I tell you, that Mutt Williams leather jacket piece saved this, because the other vest pieces I have just didn't look right. |

He came out looking great! Really like the facial expression you got with the eyes and that’s a nice looking paint job. Congrats on your first custom!

Thank you both! One of the awesome things about this forum is how supportive this community is. I've been on boards before where someone wouldn't think twice about a snarky comment or list all the ways you're wrong about something. Here, you all are so nice and so welcoming and it's really appreciated...especially for a first-timer like myself.
