So I ended up with an extra Classified Scarlett (original deco). Figured I would take a shot at repainting one of them into a 1982 version. The basic idea is that she is still wearing her original outfit somewhere under all the extra armor. I repainted pretty much everything and also made the pauldron and ponytail removable accessories. The base yellow is Grumbacher Academy Naples Yellow, the silver bits are Molotow Liquid Chrome (refill bottle), applied with a brush. I love her and had a lot of fun painting her, let me know what you think.

She came out great! Classified Scarlett was my favorite design of the first wave and you did an awesome job switching it up with a nice paint job. Got some cool poses in there too! Would love to see a side by side with your unpainted one.
The Past & Present shot with vintage Scarlett is awesome!

Yes, but some Classified Scarlett repaints I've seen start to look more plain - too few colors for the level of sculpting detail. No problem on yours though! All the right splashes in all the right places!
Thanks for sharing the paints you used. I also like that you made the shoulder pad and ponytail removable. Can you elaborate on how you did that? |

I really like it. I want to cut off the shoulder pad on mine but I'm scared to.

Thanks for sharing the paints you used. I also like that you made the shoulder pad and ponytail removable. Can you elaborate on how you did that? For the ponytail I started by slicing it with a utility knife just past her hairtie/scrunchie. Pretty easy since the hair is made of a very soft plastic. When working on figures, I often use very small diameter steel wire from the hardware store. I get the smallest size that is also available as a drill bit. It will be one of those numbered drill bits, like #57 or similar. The bit should be the same or a very few decimal points larger than the wire. Also I have a small pin vise to hold the bit with. Carefully drilled a hole with the pin vise about 1/4" deep in the center of the ponytail where I sliced it off. Do the same on the back of her head where the ponytail was. Super glue a small length of the wire into the ponytail, so enough sticks out that you can peg it in and out of the tiny hole in the back of her head. If done correctly it should be very hard to tell anything was modified. Also allows you to put the ponytail in different positions which is nice. I use this method a lot for repairing broken joints, making new thumbs for vintage figures (along with epoxy putty), etc. For the pauldron/shoulderpad I very slowly and carefully carved it off with a sharp utility knife blade. Then I sanded her shoulder around with some very fine sandpaper to get rid of knife marks and any extra material. 1500, 2000, 3000 grit (which is more of a sponge) from the auto parts store. I cut a very small strip of black elastic and used some super glue gel to glue it into a ring onto the back of the shoulderpad. I made it too tight the first time so I redid it a little bigger and now it slips on and off pretty easily but stays put when she's wearing it. I was a little worried that I was going to be left with a big divot in her shoulder or something but if you go slow, remove as little material as possible and then sand her shoulder into shape once the pad is off, I think you'll find it's fairly easy. |
